welcome to FS....you should check out www.gaownersclub.com also www.quad4forum.com they are both great sites that have to do with Grand Ams as well as the quad 4 and twin cam motor. They would love to see your car as your mod list seems preaty good. glad to see another GA on here not many people know the potential they have in almost every motor they came with from the 2.0 turbo in '88, to the quad 4/twin cam, to a 3400 '99+

Has anyone ever tapped this potential or is it like Vtec dust?look at the 2.3L "quad 4" for instance. in 91 and 92 you could get the w41 option that came at 190 and 185 hp with a 7450 redline. The High Output ranged from 160-175hp depending on the year. there is a guy with a 95 grand am 2.3l boosted to over 550hp. Then the twin cam has a GM supercharger that bumps it to about 175whp on an otherwise stock motor but there is a member over at GAOC that has a turbo'd one around the 500 mark running like 12.3 ish. then the 3400 in the 99-05 GAs is realy the last to be built in a large number of cars but there are a few 13 sec cars on mild builds. there is a rumored 675hp 3400 out there but unconfirmed so far. there are a few people that are in the process of building 3400s with goals over 400hp but at the same time alot of people are swapping 3500s from G6s and a few other models then building those as they have 30hp over the 3400 stock for stock. needless to say you could do a mild N/A build on a 3500 swaped GA and get high 13s and you could boost one into the high 11s with the money.
sorry about how long that was but its proof that GAs can have balls too and since nobody thinks they can they are great sleepers.

I used to have a 2000 Grand Am GT that had the 3.4 it was very fast! I put the magnaflow camaro crossflow muffler on that. It had Nitto's on it. That car was amazing. For your dollar to horsepower ratio it is hard to beat a grand am they had some of the most power for the cheapest price.

I'd bet there's tons upon tons of cars that are much better power for the money (that includes domestics as well as imports)

stock the 3400 is a mild 175hp but it doesn't take much to get 200whp out of them. a $100-$200 3500 top swap (depending on where you get the parts) adds about 25 whpand the car costs... and weighs..
im sure there's plenty of things that u can build that are much faster much cheaper...

175hp plus 25whp does not equal 200whp.if your read my post again maybe you will understand what i said. i never said adding the 3500 top will give you 200whp i said it will add about 25whp. i also said stock the 3400 is 175hp and it is easy to get to the 200whp mark.

Please...I doubt any bolt on mods could get a 175HP (CRANK horsepower, you do realize all car HP ratings are rated at the crank, not the wheels) grand am to put out 200 to the wheels.
My mustang is rated at 215HP from the factory and after doing Cams/Intake manifold/Offroad Midpipe/Exhaust and getting it tuned by Andy on the Dyno, the car only now puts out 215 to the wheels. Nice try though!

175hp from from a 3.4L oh baby that has potential.
