Say on average a nice new or newer machine costs $4,000. 20 oz soda at whole sale cost is .97- .98 cents. Say your machine gets 30 vends a day. Charging $1.50 per bottle you will barely make your $4k back in a year. No business owner will let you put in a machine without a cut of the profit, so you have to factor that in as well. After a year it's not so bad, low maintenance and product is cheap.

I dont believe I need a license for a pop vending machine, or even a gumball machine, my dad did have his own windshield repair business so maybe you are right, and a good vending machine on craigslist cost anywhere from 200 - 500 so I could afford it, and I know where I could get pop for .44 cents. (12oz can), as for the buisness owners place I would put it in, my dad was saying that he would give them 18% of the profit, so say id make 180, thats a 18 dollar check for them, or I could give them a 150 check every other month or something.

Learn basic math and reading and writing before you try to start your own business. Your writing sucks, and your math doesn't add up at all.

Why are you asking for advice on FS where probably no one has experience, when your dad has experience with it??

Talk to Shane, maybe he'll let you put out in front of the shop. With all the people at TM on the weekends it should pay off pretty quick. 🙂

The only way people with vending businesses make money is to have SEVERAL machines...meaning like 15+ machines.

You likely need a sales tax ID...which requires an LLC or similar as far as I know. This will be treated like a business, so you probably need ALL the necessary business paper work. Go to the ND site and check out what you need.

BTW, I bet you can do better than .44 a can with a tax ID for wholesale accounts...

You can apply for a tax id number without being an llc.

You prob need some state license to become a vendor though.

I dont see how wasting $500 on a vending machine and hoping to make a buck would be any fun....but whatever makes you happy i guess!

I'm sure he'll buy the machine on craigslist, find a place to put it, then call the guy he bought it from to get his money back because "it wasn't meant to be"

there was a vending machine business for sale a while ago in the forum it was $10k and make over $3k/month or something like that. Included like 10 places (guessing pop and candy at each) with inventory. I would look for something like that. Such an easy job IMO. It would be a great buy for a high school kid. You buy it and make your kid run it and pay you untill you get your investment back then give it to them to either keep and pay someone to run when they leave for school or sell it or whatever. Good luck with your idea.

Nobody would sell a business for $10k if they were making $3k a month profit from that business. If they were making $3k in revenue and spending near that amount in product/maintenance/etc then I could see it happening, but not if that is profit. Last I heard the general rule of thumb for selling a business was to put it up for 2 years gross revenue.
