You likely need a sales tax ID...which requires an LLC or similar as far as I know. This will be treated like a business, so you probably need ALL the necessary business paper work. Go to the ND site and check out what you need.

BTW, I bet you can do better than .44 a can with a tax ID for wholesale accounts...

You can apply for a tax id number without being an llc.

You prob need some state license to become a vendor though.

The only way people with vending businesses make money is to have SEVERAL machines...meaning like 15+ machines.

lol, whoops...wasnt thinking when I typed that, I want to find a place to put it and then go and buy one. Im not looking to make a career out of vending machines haha, just a little extra cash, nothing really big. Something fun to do with a reward is all.

I'm sure he'll buy the machine on craigslist, find a place to put it, then call the guy he bought it from to get his money back because "it wasn't meant to be"

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

He'll need to have the guy clean it up, fix it up, and deliver it, before he makes the guy pick it up and give his money back, right??

there was a vending machine business for sale a while ago in the forum it was $10k and make over $3k/month or something like that. Included like 10 places (guessing pop and candy at each) with inventory. I would look for something like that. Such an easy job IMO. It would be a great buy for a high school kid. You buy it and make your kid run it and pay you untill you get your investment back then give it to them to either keep and pay someone to run when they leave for school or sell it or whatever. Good luck with your idea.

Nobody would sell a business for $10k if they were making $3k a month profit from that business. If they were making $3k in revenue and spending near that amount in product/maintenance/etc then I could see it happening, but not if that is profit. Last I heard the general rule of thumb for selling a business was to put it up for 2 years gross revenue.

                              That's not true.

What they don't tell you, is how much of a time commitment it is. If it takes you nearly a full time job's worth of work to operate, and you only make $3k I could easily see selling it.

definately not true....if that were the case my dad would have sold his bar for $1mil+ and he was only asking a quarter of that.

Try doing what was done in the 80's, talk with apartment buildings about putting one or maybe 2 machines in common areas. Some apartments still have them not many though. I know there are times where I'd rather walk one or two flights of stairs to grab one coke for the night vs. going to walmart or gas station that night, or if it was a good price i'd grab one every morning on my way out the door to work. I know some businesses that go with pepsi get the machine for free but have to buy pop from them for way too much and they get a % of sales also. That was how it was for my sister at her business. Coke I think you buy the machine but they sell cheaper to you and you have a better ability to sell the product most of the time. Coke is also very picky and does routine maintenance and check ups with anything that sells their brand. Ever notice you go to a place to eat and they have pepsi and it can be good or watered down or way too much syrup yet you go to a place to get a coke and it tastes darn near the same each time?
