Im thinkin about getting a set of cams for my car. it a set from supersixmotorsports.com. i know i need new valve springs and i already have those picked out. They are the CompCams 915 beehive springs. here are the specs for the cam i'm lookin at:Duration: 218/226
Lift: .50/.50
Rockers: 1.7
LSA: 108I'm doing this to my 3.8 v6 stang. just wondering if anyone has some insight on a better cam to use or if anyone knows how to swap cam shafts out. :icon_scratch:
Hey man... let me give you 2 things of advice.
- do what you want... its YOUR car.
- check with sites that deal with mustangs. Seriously. No offense to a lot of these guys, but most have never owned a ford, let alone a mustang (and know what that 3.8 can do). Check out this site and ask the same question... you might get the same response, but at least it will be guys id be willing to take to the bank with.

Im on there everyday. In fact, theres a thread called "North Dakota" where theres a few of us with stangs in the area. Most will be willing to help ya do the swap on cams or engine too!

damn it... why am I the bad guy here? haha
in my defense, I dont know what you guys have or have not driven. Do I think he should do it? No. Is it really my decision? No. he wants cam help, im just pointing him on where he can go to get it.
with that said... what kinda stang did ya have?

racing a v6 stang is like getting in a fight with with a girl....cant brag if you win and your made fun of if you loose!!!
yes my car would loose but you get the point. LOL i joke im hoping to get some cams and headers in my car next summer when i get some cash and people would laugh at that but its your car do what you want. Those 3.8 are supprisingly potent from what i have seen.

I did have an old friend run mid 13s with ported heads and a Vortech (and a few other things) in a 3.8L Thunderbird.
The other option is a 4.3L stroker build based off the 4.2L truck V6. Back when I was following the Thunderbird crowd a little more those were starting to become more popular.

if you look at it the 3.8 should be able to put out a better power/displacement ratio...i did the math once but i cant remember how much more displcaement per hole there is. V6 should be able to carve better due to less weight so a fairly decently built V6 should be a good all around vehicle.

I would love to see a mustang "carve" better because it has a v6 vs v8. come on.....

im not a mustang guy at all their kind of like civics everyones got one, but the potential of a motor has to do with HP/liter and HP/cylinder and the 3.8 is able to put out fairly impressive numbers in both aspects. Carve better means Auto-X type stuff. Its got less weight in the front so theoretically it should be better at that sort of thing.
but sorry i forgot this is Fargo Street where your nobody unless you flame people untill you have a post count above 5k when you get it reset and you now have to post worthless crap everywhere to get back your mighty power. All im trying to do is have a discussion on v6 mustangs getting cams.

for the price of a good set of cams you could pick up a 5.0-4.6 swap? or at least be in the ball park, and you'll be way out ahead as far as power. or at least that's how i'd look at it. And with there being people volunteering to help you do cams i'm sure they'd be just as happy to help you do a motor swap.

Ok I see what you mean by it being lighter, not sure how much that would help since handling characteristics center around the weight distribution and center of gravity location more than the overall weight of the car. A lighter car will feel quicker and more nimble maybe though, and less sprung mass bouncing and swaying over the suspension should help some. Not saying it wouldn't help but weight distribution would be have to be looked at I would think because a heavier V8 car with better weight distribution still could potentially handle better. By displacement per hole im assuming you mean displacement per cylinder and I still don't understand how you're translating displacment/cylinder into power/displacment. That just doesn't make sense.
I agree with Heath. I mean if you wanna do this just to be different I guess I respect that but if you want to be truely fast I don't think dumping money into the 3.8 is the way to do it. Especially if you're young and don't have much money to spare. You'll end up dropping a huge chunk of change to be running 13's when you coulda spent the same amount or less and be running 10's
