It's a huge looming problem that needs to be addressed ASAP, this charity money doesn't work because it is too easy to manipulate. In the end, the government is giving handouts to people who don't need them and will turn around to buy fancy cars and houses. I know a lady in Texas who receives welfare checks and used them to buy a brand new house. It's ridiculous.
With all that said, I was a refugee. I came here with my parents as a refugee back in 1990. I worked hard and studied hard and ended up in pharmacy school here at NDSU. If I wasn't given the opportunity to come to this great country I would not be where I am today (I came from a war torn country). When we came here we did not get any welfare money, and my mom and dad had to build everything we have now with their two bare hands. Would free federal money been nice? Sure, it might have made things easier. Was it necessary? No. New Americans just need guidance, not government handouts.
Diversity is a good thing for this country. Having more minorities isn't the problem in America because once we are here we are all Americans (except for the illegals, obviously). Unfortunately what happens is people find themselves comfortable with always getting free money and they finding loopholes and ways to cheat the system. That's the hole that America needs to fix.
Exactly. I have clients that deal with assistance in housing, as well as friends and family members that deal with properties. The system IS a problem. For example, I was talking with a client a few months back about how the assistance works. It actually PUNISHES you for going out and getting a job of any kind. They drop you off of assistance as soon as you get the job. Fine. BUT, the issue lies with the fact that you actually make less money doing something at McDonalds for $7.50/hr versus living on assistance. There needs to be a gradual scale of assistance..not just on or off. It just creates a messy situation of someone needing to get worse before it gets better. They also mentioned that they get money for their utility bills, and generally don't spend it on that. Then, they go crying to LSS about how their electricity, etc will be shut off...they get cut another check to pay for their bills. This isn't all minorities either, there is just as much white trash out there..

Now, to be fair, not all of that money goes towards refugee's either. Some of it does go for other social programs such as caring for those with disabilities, senior care, adoption, disaster response, foster care, parenting services, pregnancy services, veteran and military family services, etc... All of which are respectable causes. What I haven't been able to nail down is exactly how much goes to each.

Obviously I work with an ass-ton of immigrants. My boss has to drive up to the canadian border to deal with immigration nonsense at least once a month. Just the non-citizens on my tiny team contribute more tax revenue than huge handfulls or buildings of some of these other guys. And what does uncle sam do? He harasses my co-workers needlessly with irrelevant horseshit.
Everyone that wants to come here to work their ass off should be allowed to. And everybody that IS here -- born here or not -- who doesnt want to work their ass off needs to GTFO.
I know gobs of Microsofties from other places, many of them former communist nations. They are furious that this nation that they gave up everything to get to is following the same stupid policies and headed towards the same destructive destination as the hell-holes they emigrated from.
