Are all of the modems (even the 20mbps) docsis 3.0?

If not the jump from 20 -> 40 would require new hardware.

I'm pretty sure our modem is 3.0...I'll have to double check I guess.

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

Well I'm seeing about 72 mbit down right now. If kirk and tony would stop streaming gay porn it would probably go up.

Sad part is, Kirk is actually watching channel 539(The GayVN Awards) LOL.

I've gotten 31-32/5 so far...I think we only get 30 tho so I'm happy.

And Jim, we do have a 3.0 modem.

Why are you using the SD server?

                    1. It chooses for you.
                    2. The SD server generally gives faster speeds.

Our modem cannot handle the 30/5 package supposedly so my tests yesterday were yielding ~ 22-27 down and 2 up still...My parents are actually thinking about switching back to cable one now because their Midco bill keeps going up each month it seems like, it's already $40 higher than it was 6 months ago and that is after they were done with that intro $100/month trio bundle pricing.

You guys have it good... my 100mbps business class line is $400 a month.

The non business class is $105 but its capped at 250gb per month (retarded).

We'll see how long midco goes before it gets saturated and implments some sort of bandwidth cap...

                              1. Make sure you reset the modem since the update
                              2. If you are doing it over wireless, the G standard is generally considered to be maxed out around ~22mbps.

If his modem is doing 27 down... theres not an issue of it doing 30mbps down. These variances could be due to line quality. Check your splitters, or login to the modem's admin panel and check the SNR. Especially when you start talking about 30+mbps of bandwidth throughput, you also need to start looking at Gigabit ethernet... 100base-t starts chocknig out not too far above 30mbps, especially with software controlled cheap NIC's. Oh the wonders of fast internet.

Just reset the router and plugged in hardwired and got 30/5 so all is well there now.

My current results. 😞 This is after I reset everything, before the reset I was getting 9 down and 1 up.

Not too far above that you need to make sure you aren't using Cat5 and at least using Cat5e. The thing is, most people don't understand that the ratings are theoretical only. Isn't it something like Cat5=33mbps, 5e=66mbps and 6=?.

It's weird how the software controlled NICs(including 802.11G adapters that are generally software based compression to increase throughput) have become more popular as speeds have increased.

Eh... 95% of people will never know the difference, and it saves both space and money from a hardware perspective.
