Good driving Doug. It was a good day. Went out to play, and went home with a 1st place plaque.

Saturday’s event was fun and the quick 8 went well. Thanks to Top End and Playtime for making that happen.

I am wondering why the original Quick 8 rules have been modified.
        http://www.fargostreet.com/forums/showthread.php?19392-Quick-8-the-Street-Legals

My bro came with 28x10.5 ET Drags and was told he cannot compete with those tires in the Quick 8, so he had to run drag radials. I believe he purchased those to comply with original Quick 8 rules. I am also wondering why the AWD and FWD cars have no tire width restriction? Are DOT slicks still allowed to be 28x12.5” width? Mickey Thompson’s ET Streets (bias ply DOT slicks) minimum width is 10.5”. Just wanting to get some input and get a little clarification as I am planning on buying some DOT slicks.
Look forward to future Quick 8's.

Here are the simplest answers I can make for your questions:

          1. The rules information was not transferred correctly to the Q8 handout we have been using for 2011. The handout says 28x10s are the limit, so that's what we've been using. That will now be changed BACK to 28x10.5 for the remaining 2 Q8s of 2011. Have your brother bolt em back on and bring it back.

          2. IMHO, FWD/AWD are at a large disadvantage when leaving the line. (Am I really hearing big turbo v8 guys crying about the little imports? 😛 )

          3. Yes, we will run the remaining Q8s of 2011 with the same rules that your link is showing.

Referring to AWD cars, I would say exactly the opposite.

Great job on saturday Guys. I have been attending these events for a long time and would have to say, that was the smoothest running tintmasters event yet. Keep up the great work!

I doubt domin8r was crying but thanks for clearing up. It was a little inconvenient but I was able to bolt my street tires back on after making some all out passes and compete in the quick 8. Nice job on the event!

Kevin in the 9.7 second Evo goes 1.5-1.6 60's.

What do you V8 guys pull?

We've put a lot of work into these events, and they keep getting better.

I appreciate you guys bringing your stuff out for everyone to watch.

joe was getting some 1.4s the last event in his evo during the middle of the day right among all the cars running regular street tires

once we sorted some stuff i had a couple 1.4s too leaving easy enough on the footbrake

that was just on 26x9 slicks too

track surface was great, if my chassis was sorted out for drag it would hit 1.3s on the little slicks no problem at a street legal event

that is saying something about the track condition

i have the white capri. generally i run a 1.6-1.7 60' i have managed a 1.58once on transbrake without the 2 step but i generally just blow the tires off. i can drop the pressure in the tires and do a better 60' but it floats down the track and gives me the pucker effect.

                          Are wheel tubs allowed?
Will a 12.5 dot tire be allowed et street, Hoosier dot, etc?
Any plans to change the tire rules for next year?

I'll answer these by just putting the entire set of rules for the remaining Q8s.

                            1. No wheel tubs. (mini tubs ok)
                            2. No wheelie bars.
                            3. For RWD vehicles, full slicks may be no bigger than 28x10.5 (no 'W's).
                            4. For RWD vehicles, DOT slicks may be no bigger than 28x12.5.
                            5. For RWD vehicles, drag radials may be no bigger than 325/50.
                            6. AWD and FWD vehicles can run any size tire.
                            7. You and your vehicle are required to have any necessary safety equipment. Top End Dragways can prohibit you from running at ANY time. For instance, If you aren't tech'd to run in the 9's, and you run a 9 second pass in the quarter finals(and win), T.E.D. might warn you not to run in the 9's again. If you ran another 9 in the semis (and win), T.E.D. can kick you from the track for the day. This would eliminate you from the final, and any prize money. This is all up to T.E.D's management. There will be no debating this. What Charlie says is final.

Just take the tubs out Jim, and with a little 28" tire you won't need the wheelie bar anyway. My tubs come out pretty easy, I'd just have to put up a wall to keep the rocks and stuff from hitting me in the back of the head. 🙂

Heres something, not sure how it would work but the cars are suppose to be street legal, right? We take the cars that have insurance, current tabs, and a dot approved tire (limited size maybe?), and take these cars on a 20 to 30 mile drive see if they make it. Allow for a short cool down, make one run, to see were they land in the standings. Then set up the bracket and do the runs for the winner. O and the last time the cars are able to be touch is before the 20 to 30 mile run. After that any hoods opened or any programing done will disqualify the car and driver! I would say tire pressure would be ok to change but that would be about all you could change once they are started.

No. 'Street Legal' is a name, period. I would be willing to bet that exactly zero of the vehicles that have competed in any Q8s pass all state/DOT regulations.

I can't even imagine the manpower it would take to pull this off. I am curious to hear the opinions of people that have competed in Q8s.

I have competed in the Q8 everytime I have gone to the event! I didn't think it would work out but I thought I would just throw it out there. I want to go to a steet legal event were you have to do a trip like that. The closest one I know of was in Ohio this past summer. My car is a daily driver unless its raining or there is snow on the ground!
