For the DSM people.

Stock 3 bolt Rear End went 11.2 a few times, befor switching to a 4 bolt... O btw I did break many many axles. Have fun and get a 2nd job.. lol
-
i dont own a dsm but from personal experience...go AT LEAST a step larger then you think you want at the moment..it will pay off next summer

-
I think going with a 50 trim would be too big of a step right now. There are more parts that I would need in order to run a 50 trim over the 16g. I will probably end up going to a 50 trim after this summer is over but it will be a slow progression because of the additional parts that are needed.
I think that my rear-end should be fine because I don't think I will get even close to 11.2 pass at the track. The only thing really holding back my car that is major right now is that damned transmission.
Thanks for the help guys.
Another question I think you could answer it for me Kevin. If I buy one of SLS's manifolds for my 16g could I re-use it once I get my 50 trim?

- 93 tsi
- stock 14b
- not so great. grinds into every gear.. hard time shifting into 2nd without a little working/forcing in.
- stock 3 bolt
- my transfer case was fixed under a recall. so far ive gotten a new battery, o2 sensor, and plug wires.
99% of dsms on this board > mine.

- 91 RS FWD Auto
- Ported 14b w/external
- Auto....what can I say...no missed shifts. And no need to lift.
- Stock solid rear with crossbar. Adding a rear sway next week.
- Hard pipes, MBC, 3" Turbo-back out the side, K&N, free mods, pics soon
Bad93EX: Hate to tell you but 3-bolts are known to start breaking with low-12 to high 11-sec cars. Which a 14b is more than capable of. Comes down to clutch and launching softly.

The 50 trim is the new Big 16g. Spoolup isn't drastic, power is great. Good street turbo.
You can use your stock manifold, just get it ported. If your going with a tubular manifold, check out straight garett turbos and have a manifold flanged for t3/t4 (instead of a mitsu hybrid).
The parts needed for a big16 are almost the same as a 50... you'd need:
Injectors
Fuel Pump
Fuel Control (AFC)
Front Mount and Piping
Blow Off Valve50 you need oil line kit...
I'm trying to think if there is anything else.... maybe a fuel pressure regulator

I have a DSM....Yes, Its broken.

I have a 97 GSX.
-
I run a large Forced Performance turbo, the FP3065
-
Current transmission is great, it's as far from stock as you can possibly get, so my info isn't much good for your situation.
-
You can run the 3 bolt rear end for quite a while as long as you're careful with it. When I had a 1G a few years ago, I broke a rear axle on the street with only a MBC, filter, 3" turbo back, and centerforce clutch. It's all about how you launch the car.

Just like someone said, be prepared for that car to break the bank!!

In response to your reply on #3.

but its about as bulletproof as you get also.
I talked to Shep and he said that a standard rebuild will hold what I want to do easily. -

from 92 to 99, dsm's have 4 bolt rear ends. Late 92 to 99 dsm's have 7 bolt motors.
I had a big 16g. I hated it, I wanted bigger. -
Remember to check out http://www.dsmtrader.com if you're looking for parts too. I picked up a 4bolt rear for $150 a couple years back.
-
That is correct. The 4 bolt out of that white AWD car is in Kevin's red car.
