thrown timing belt on DSM

i have got a buddie who has got a 94 talon he just bought and it like spun the timing belt so it has like not teeth on the belt left. he said that he was just sitting at a stop light at idle and it dyed but i was just wondering if when that happens if it causes some of the valves to bend or what problems it will cause if any?

Same thing happined to me about 2 months ago and I just kicked the car and now it sits as im sick of DSM's

The thing will run top notch afterwards, if done properly that is.bad idea. how do you know that the used replacement motor hasn't been treated even worse? there's no guarantee with so many moving parts, buying someone else's used car/engine/tranny/etc is buying someone else's problems. i would just put work into the engine already in the car

2nd...Most used engines come with some kind of a warrenty, which is why I suggest replacing most of the critical things while it is out in the open. When the engine is removed from a vehicle and is in known working order, they usually check compression too, mainly because they dont want to send out a motor that may be running only on 3,5,7 cylinders.
3rd....This is from MY EXPERIENCE....both from owning a dsm and being a technician. They are a pain in the ass trying to fix when the valves have been bent....And there is always at LEAST 4 bent (intake and exhaust on 2 cylinders at once)

i suppose neither one of us specified where the used engine would be coming from...
if the head is the only thing damaged, just send it off to buscur, ffwd connection, turbotrix, fasterthanyou, etc and get something better back
keep in mind, this is IF the head is the only thing damaged. i would take it to someplace that knows the engine before i even think about keeping it (for reasons that ryan mentioned) -

what do "I" work on?? anything and everything. I'm not some punk who thinks he knows everything, I'm actually a trained and certified technician. Hell, I put motors in 2 different talons this past month because of timing belt failure.
