F1 > Nascar for the following reasons:

        1. Car development is above and beyond anything in the world, when it comes to F1.
        2. They don't look like fish out of water when they have to turn right.
        3. BAR Hondas current car has a full carbon fiber gear box. CASES, SHAFTS, GEARS, ALL CARBON
        4. BAR Hondas cars make 900 whp detuned, weigh 1300 lbs, and rev to 19000 rpm.
        5. Racing that involves hard braking is pimp. 🙂

i was watching nascar cars take the course of a non oval course, like road courses. Its odd to see that names like jeff gordon dont regulary place high in this type of racing. Is this sort of nascar course racing a relatively new sport? if so, it sounds like a huge attempt for media hype. sick...

When it comes to sponsors and money, and technology, nascar can't even compare to F1. Ford, Chev, and Dodge dominates nascar, each cost about $200k, 0-60 in 4.6sec. aerodynamic is like shit. F1 cars runs enigines and chassis from a while range of manufactures in the world, Ferrari, BWM, Honda, Toyota, Renualt, Ford competed a few years back until they can't win. Each car cost roughly $14million, 0-60 in 2.5sec.

one of the main reasons that nascar is so popular is because the promotors of it have always tried to keep it a "real person" sport, by keeping the factory look of production cars, they are very aerodynamicly flawed and prolly always will be.

this would also explain all the publicity of the drivers as real people, not some greasy haired stuck up snob thats been raised with the money to become the driver he is

nascar was started with factory built cars, and how they can modify them to go faster then the original designer would ever dream! not build the craziest thing u can dream of and then make rules around the spec of that "car"

nascar's rules almost dont alow a team to build a 14million dollar car to keep the playing field equal, and to keep the veiwing of the race enjoyable from the stands i.e. restrictor plate races

i myself would preffer to watch somebody i can relate to, not a robot bred for racing glorified go karts

and i think thats the main reason for the popularity of nascar. americans love to root for the under dog, home town kid, or somebody else that has felt the hardships of a normal person

LIFE'S JOURNEY IS NOT TO ARRIVE AT THE GRAVE IN A WELL PRESERVED BODY, BUT RATHER TO SKID IN SIDEWAYS, TOTALLY WORN OUT, SHOUTING ' HOLY SHIT.....WHAT A RIDE'

Oh god pull out the ole' technology dyno.

Nascar has it's rules so that they are extremely restricted on what they can and can't do. I don't prefer one type of racing over another I will watch them all.

oblivious, gordon actually prefers the road courses. he usually does fairly well on them, and they have been racing a couple road courses a year for quite some time now. how ever, i don't really like watching nascar all that much. its just with no cable tv on sundays there isn't anything much better to watch.

Jeff Gordon actually is one of the better drivers when it comes to non-oval track racing. He has won quite a few of the road course events over the years.

This is because everybody else in the world is worried about what the US is doing, etc. Like Kirk said earlier, I highly doubt that US sports are talked about in detail every day over in other countries. I think you either need satelite TV with all of the channels you can get, or go back to Vietnam if you hate the US so much;)

F1 drivers have to be in some sort of decent physical shape to withsand the physical rigors of racing in machines that produce in excess of 4g's.

How many NASCAR drivers have a beer gut? a few.

What do you think takes more skill? piloting an F1 car or a NASCAR? I think it would be funny as hell to put a NASCAR driver in an F1 car. in about the 1st turn of a race, the team owner would be minus 14 million and have a dead driver on his hands.

I just hate the press NASCAR receives. Id much rather watch touring car championships or even some of the upper eschelons of SCCA racing than NASCAR. Its just not that exciting, especially when every other lap is yellow flagged and they have to restart teh damn race 5 times.

NASCAR has NOT been about "stock" cars for a VERY long time. Hell, even in the 1950's where the racing series has its roots, the cars only LOOKED stock. Most of them used heavy duty 8 bolt truck axels and huge, very non stock engines.

the open wheelers are where its at..... when is the last time you saw a NASCAR that was 6 wheel drive? or how about a turbine engine car? there is a LOT of history in open wheel racing, what has NASCAR brought us in the way of technological innovations? they are still running CARBS for godssake!

Im just "not a fan" I guess.

That is funny. I would like to drive a NASCAR car for the fun of it, but...can't believe people can sit there and watch it all day 😕

Gordon did drive Montoya's car for a few laps, and did fairly well ( 4 secs or so off JPM's pace). Unfortunetly 4 secs is an eternity, ask team Minerdy.
                              NASCAR= evolutionary, F1=revolutionary
I love F1 even if it isnt a good race (seldom), because there is always the soap opra stories and good gossip.
nascar is a marketing machine, f1 should learn from them about that!

i think this is the major flaw of nascar, and the president (suspend judgement, please), it is also the same kind of idea at the heart of harrison bergeron and many other dis-utopian novels. similarly, it's part of the problem with america (ok, one of them), the idea that everyone is equal: anyone can drive in nascar because it's not difficult, anyone can have a nascar car and drive it... anyone can talk man to man with the president. can you see where i'm going with this?
americans seem to think that anyone can be the best, what they don't realize is that some of us come from better raw material, period. examples? cite professional basketball. where do the best players come from? yep, african descent. i'm sure you can all see where this is going.
don't misconstrue, i'm not some sort of racist, but i also don't think we're all EQUAL. to a point we are equal, about as equal as a motor-scooter and a lingenfelter-modified escalade.

I couldnt remember the times exactly, but I like Gordon, and besides his first lap "off" he did pretty good. He was all smiles after the drive, and could not believe the braking power of an F1 car.
I think it cool that the teams I guess, dont paint the very leading edge of the cars, so if they get rock chips it doesnt effect the balance, or performance of the car.
I usually will watch nascar if it isnt an f1 race weekend, BOTH are entertainment, just a different flavor.

what can i say, phats? you seem to be an exception to the generalization. just like how it's not supposed to be possible to cook chicken in a microwave oven and eat it (being as it usually comes out rubbery); whereas, that is one of my favorite ways to cook because it takes less time and i can prepare very tender chicken that way.
there are almost always exceptions to everything

Question: How do you loose a NASCAR driver following you?

Answer: Make a RIGHT HAND TURN.
