Why doesn't anybody race?

i raced any wanna be that wanted a piece. haha Non of them of stood a chance obviously, but they tried. I did have fun one time with the silver sti, in town he would get the jump on me but on the highway i'd pull on him. It was fun. No one really wants to have fun anymore. The cops are dicks, and they're aren't any ladies out to impress. Not sure why the track seems so dead on the tintmasters events, last year was hopping.
ericMan you are cocky as hell, and I'm drunk as hell. I guess it all works out.

So you wan't us to street race now, I thought we should save it for the track. I don't think the scene is going away, it's getting bigger, but more and more gay. People are just attempting to build "show cars" more than performance driven rides. It's still all to 2f2f in a way. I am not going to get a big wing and a body kit, and just tonight as well I was thinking, it's so much damn money, and for what? Nothing, unless you are winning shows with your car, even then, how much money can you get back out of it.

The import/car scene in this town SUCKS no matter which way you look @ it. There is barely ever anyone out cruisng, barely anyone comes out to the track, no one street races. Idk how much worse the scene could get before it just fades out...If it's fading so fast, then you should line up a job interview, not a race. No more tuning, no more SLS.

The scene has gone to shit the last few years. It use to be where every fri and sat you could go up on main and find a group of people hanging out, and there would be actual races set up... then head out to the country on a safe stretch of road and have some fun. I think some of it may have to do with the cops keeping the group from hanging out, or maybe it's just that the majority of people are now ricers that just want to drive around?

the reason I generally don't street race is that I lose my job if I lose my license, if I lose my job, my modding days are over (unless any of you want to guarantee me $35-40k/year + free health benefits 401k and pension, then I'm all for street racing). Now, if someone could find a nice abandoned road w/ little to no traffic on it, I'd be all for it, hell I'd drive 15 miles for such a road. I prefer to do it at the track however, it's more of a controlled environment (no deer, cops, etc...) and I know that the people that go there tend to take racing more seriously and are not likely to cut me off/fuck up and hit me so I feel safer there.
And for the record, I'd still rather race than just drive around.

Personally, I know street racing is fun but I think there are quite a lot of risks. I'd rather race at Sabin where the worst that is likely to happen is I'll break my car or get my pride hurt.If it wasn't for this site I would probably not have met 90% of the people I've been hanging out with lately at these gatherings.
agreed....

Gravedigger, first off, what are you talking about? It's already been established, that what you spend to mod out a car in terms of performance or in terms of looks will never be a good investment. When did we ever say save it for the track?
Secondly, I find your comment about lining up to an interview offensive. Stop buying street glow, and consider going fast if your going to bash the 2f2f crowd.

We always find places to race, and never have a problem (safe places).
The police wouldn't bother the groups that hang out today, except they all do stupid shit like burnouts right on main roads, donuts right by busy parking lots, etc; when the owners get ticked off, they give them attitude.
I think your right, they all are ricers that just want to cruise, it seems every weekend, we go and find the "ricers", pull in to the parking lots, ask them to come race, and ALWAYS get denied. Always some lame ass excuse.

Ah, wasn't aimed at you Tjamz... that is a totally valid reason for not racing on the street, and you have the mindset, to go fast, and you race it at the track. Totally understandable why you dont...
What doesn't make sense are why all these other people never street race, never race at the track, etc.. etc.. you know what i mean.

prolly because this is such a small community that if somebody lost a race to a car they shoulda beat, their image would be tarnished. word spreads pretty fast around this town, not anything like the community in minneapolis where you'd see a car once, lose and be able to keep it on the DL cause nobody knows who the other guy was and likely you'll never see him again.
make sense?

...im just saying. everybody knows i lost to you from a roll, yippie, it was like beating a blind kid poker. we all know who won in the real RACE.

Gravedigger youe are way to new into this game to even comment. The scene is not growing, it is going to hell. Every year it gets smaller and smaller. As Dave said you guys weren't around when we'd get groupd of 30 cars hanging out and we'd head out to race. I can year about 5-6 years back when myself, Dave, and my buddy Matt we're theonly 3 imports in this town back when we were running 13's and you wereking shit. As the years progressed if youhad a 13 second car still you weren't shit and you were getting ownedevery weekend. Now as the years went those days are gone and now if you got a 13 second car your owning the road again and all you see is neon, big wings, and body kits, and expensive paint jobs. Now all that is fine and dandy but all it adds up to is sitting in a parking lot for a few hours then going home. I dont even see anyone cruise@ all anymore.
And about lining up that job interview you might wanna get a clue before you open your mouth on that one. Locals is not whats keeping us in business whatsoever. If we were dependent on the local crowd we wouldn't be in business and i would have never started a business based off the scene in this town. So we do have a group of return customers who are actually interested in the scene and interese=ted in building cars so maybe SOMEDAY we may see the scene come around.

w00t. he admits it, oh yea, and i beat you on the 29 frontage road, video? oh yea, and i beat smitty in your car at the track.

i have to agree that the scene is getting smaller or just falling apart. back before i had my license and used to hang out with a friend that did have his license, it was fun to cruise down broadway and see a lot of the nice cars in the area. now there doesn't seem to be any place like broadway where everyone cruises, i only hear about the occasional race, and when i'm out on the street... the only people that what a piece are the losers in grand am gt's and girls in gm cars. i'm slightly disappointed, but i expect it to change again into something else in the next couple of years.

i wasn't in fargo a couple years ago, but i've heard everybody got rid of their cars for crotch rockets pretty muchIDK if you know much about what we have @ the shop but these are the cars we built to keep up back in the day. 3 years ago you had to run 11's to keep up. Now 11's will beat ANYTHING on the street!

The old v8 guys wont even race anymore. I think tha last person that asked me to race was a toyota tundra.....that kinda says it all about quote unquote scene here. As long as there is an auto zone and a civic in town there will always be the rice racer mentality.
