The right way to do it would be to gut the car, brace it, drill out the spot welds on the firewall, do a firewall swap, then put everything back in. Cutting a car in half then putting a different half on is dangerous as hell.

Honestly the only problem I forsee is that the welds would be too tough, and would allow enough flew and preak something in a different part of the vehicle while cornering hard....

"I've thought for hours and so no reason why someone would want to do this other than to be a biter and a fad follower, but.....
Just clip the car, buy a JDM front clip with windshield pillars and front floor. Have a GOOD body shop clip the car just like they would a totaled CRX. Probably 20% of the people on this board are driving CRXs that have had front clips welded on and they don't know it. Its a common practice in the body world. What they will do is cut the floor somwhere probably around where your feat go (I'd guess there is a seam somwhere in there but really can't remember) and cut the A-pillar. They'll put a sleeve in the A pillar, slide the new clip on to that sleeve to make a stronger a pillar, and weld the new floor on. It will be as stong as new if not stronger. Unfortunately you'll be stuck with a car that looks like it should belong to a mail man or a stunna."

clipping a car is NOT a common practice in the body world!!!! It is NOT as strong if not stronger!!! You should find out who is going to do this, I am not the only one who is a bit curious.

Getcher green hat, we are goin fishin.

A bit off topic, but pimp my ride didn't like the clipped idea on an escort.... I just hope that we won't see groshong driving a Scion with a huge wing after all is said and done. 🙂 🙂 Best of luck on the swap, and mad props on trying something different... I hope it all works out safely and fully functional!!

That had something to do with only 9 little welds and a bunch of liquid nails holding the car together though...... I think he'll do better than that.

Speaking of that, there are now exact replicas (except smaller of course) of that scion sitting at wal-mart in the car toys isle. MTV has started making "Pimp My Ride" RC cars.

                  Ok, back on topic.

I sure hope he would do better.... It was just the first thing that came to mind when I read about welding the clip to the car....

This is matt posting on justin's name. I have done alot of research on this subject I have decided to more than likely clip the car but i have found some rust spots that are pretty bad so i might just firewall swap but the car needs a new front radiator support/headlight housing and drivers side panal above the front wheel. Just to clarify for you guys doubting me this is safe and very posable to do right. also be for you start the uninformed hating you sould take a look at Fallguy's car to see what he has done. (welding susp. parts on a unibody is bad HMMMM...). I hate to be a dick but you guys only say shit because i'm not some idolized tuner like dave or fallguy (no offence guys just the truth). and dark elvis what do you know about body work??? so if anybody comes up with something constructive to say please post.

Don't get mad at me, I am just saying that logically, when you cut a car in half you trash it's structural integrity. I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm just saying that for safety sake, do the firewall swap.

I do believe that Matt is installing a full cage in his car to comply with NHRA regulations. His car is a total different mule. He is also converting to rwd. I wish you the best of luck. Hope it turns out well for you.
