Dyno in Fargo?!?! Interested?!?

Call up some places like Hi-Tech motorsports in the cities and talk to them for advice, they seem to be pretty successful with the dyno. It would be nice to have a dyno up here to see your numbers as well as tuning. What kinds of vehicles would you specialize in?

As great as I think it would be to have a dyno, and an AWD dyno back in ND, in all honesty I don't see there being enough to make it work. I would probably use the dyno 2-3 times a year. However, the guys in Minot tried this years ago, and it barely ever got any use. It's alot of money to spend when it's not even paying for itself. Granted, Minot and Fargo are very different towns, but I think either way it would be hard. I wish you the best, and it would be great to get one.

There wasn't WRX's, STi's, Evo's, etc... They had Eclipses, but nobody REALLY got hard into the motorwork in the area until 2001/2002+ A 2 wheel drive dyno would be pointless, as many/most of our hardcore enthusiasts are AWD. The Dynapack is a dyno that has 4 separate boxes that attach to each hub. There is no rolling drum of any sort. With this dyno you have complete control of the car and the dyno runs the car, the car doesn't run the dyno like a drum style dyno. For FWD/RWD all you have to do is attach 2 of the 4 boxes to the drive wheels.

[email protected]If you can do fwd, rwd, I think it would be a smart investment. I think an even smarter investment would to be very good at tuning, or a very good dyno tuner on hand. Having the dyno is one thing, but if you are a very competent tuner, people will flock for that extra bit of power they will get from you.
If you can deliver the total package, I think it would be wise, and help you guys corner the tuning market in ND even more.

Yes, see previous post for fwd/rwd answer
Tuning will be done by whomever recieves training in the particular system. We already have been very successful with road tunes lately, and have a guy qualified for a few systems, and shane and myself would be taking the courses as well. With the purchase of the dyno, you also recieve hands on training for 2 full days on how to properly opperate the dyno as well as some software. Obviously hondata, Turboxs, etc... will each need appropriate training, and we fully plan to receive this knowledge BEFORE touching a customers car. The worst thing that could happen is trying to tune a car without knowing WTF you are doing!!! So when thinking about this scenario, consider the fact that we will be trained and qualified to touch your car, and if we aren't we will not be afraid to say so... To much liability for an ego trip!

One thing that we WOULD NOT want people to think though, is that we are a 'tuner dyno' only. To make the rent payment we will need to be able to tune a range of vehicles. All this knowledge would be hard to have one person do, so we would look to have a domestic tuner (someone with a heart for the domestic crowd/vehicles) and a tuner(s) for the import crowd. We want to have this dyno not only open business relationships with the domestic/truck crowd, but also expland our knowledge of what works and what doesn't for domestics/trucks. We have never shunned the domestic crowd intentionally, but jumping into that scene without having a good amount of experience is hard. Having a dyno with domestic crowds using it will enable us to better understand what works and what doesn't.

I think this is an awesome idea. Except for this year, I have been getting new dyno results annualy. I haven't had to do any tuning, though, and I'm switching to a Megasquirt standalone soon.
Since this type of dyno doesn't rely on friction from the tires it wouldn't have wheel spin issues with big power.

You can put a car on the dyno, get the initial results, then just change say oil or air filter and see a true difference. It eliminates a lot of the x factors from a rolling drum style dyno... This dyno can also hold your car at a certain RPM for as long as you want! Like I said before, the dyno controls the car, the car doesn't control the dyno! VERY BADA$$ design!

I think it is a great idea. The cost and time of a trip to the cities along with having to clear your schedule for a road trip ect is not something people up here love doing. I have tried multiple times to get an appoitment to make the trip but have not been able to because of scheduling conflicts and their shop hours. People who are awd who do not have the option of a spool should be crossing their fingers for this, especially if you do private appointments. I would spend my 500 bucks with you rather then a trip to st paul. The only thing I would say is a downer is the negative attention associated with the noise of running a dyno on main. Police already see mufflers as a problem, what are they going to say about a v8 running full throttle with no exhaust on main st?

We would have it 24/7 and if nighttime became an issue, we would just make sure to have the tuning during the day... Our new location really doesn't have a lot of businesses or buildings around us. If we did it on the eastside of the building, or indoors, I don't forsee a major issue. Good point, and we will have to consider this as well! It is just gonna be super nice if we do this, having the rolling hub adaptors being able to go anywhere at anytime!
