Me and brian got his tranny out tonight and that bolt wasn't actually that bad, we used a 9/16 stubby wrench. I will call you tomorrow and help you get it out.

if you still havn't gotten it, I suggest try using extensions. they work wonders on crappy spots and angles like that.

You can't even get a socket on that bolt.

That is some fine engineering right there... LOL I had a S10 pickup that I needed to loosen the engine and tilt it up to get the starter out, that was pretty sweet as well.

Sounds like a shit ton of fun.

Stubby wrench sounds like the way to go. I don't have one, but i'm sure I could get one.

If that doesn't work, then I guess I'll have to try lowering the engine a little too.

I have no idea how I'm going to get my hand up in there, lol.

I know what your feeling, delt with that bolt a couple times already. I can't remember exactly how I got it out now, but usually for bolts like that I use the craftsman sockets with the swivel built into it, because it provides for extra clearence than using a regular socket and a swivel. Or I just lop off a chunk of a extra wrench to make it work.

I don't know how many tools I have cut, welded and modified over the years to make my life easier.

all i got to say is GM.
my 90 cutlass supreme 3.1 i have to rock the motor forward to work on the back of the motor at all. plugs, wires, O2....alt is fine though.
as compared to the alt on the 3.4 DOHC engines where you have to dig way under the motor for that shit.
and then to top it off you are pretty stuck with what you can do to them to make them bigger or badder. i mean jeez if i was getting more from all that work it would be fine, but i am not.

After a grinded "popular mechanics" wrench, and about 10 minutesof finger tip finangling...I got the fucker.

                            Yes, some swearing did help.

The old converter in this SOB felt like it weight almost 50 lbs.

This new one weighs maybe 25 lbs.

Thats a good amount of saved rotating weight! I can't wait untill my tranny comes back!!

That's probably because the new converter doesn't have as much fluid as the old one.

I know, but still, It was a bigger difference than I thought it would be.

I'm going to weigh them when I fill both of them.

reduced rotating mass has to be a good thing. even it it is only 10 lbs. right? right!
