High boost?
-
yes it's potter and no he isn't using a stock boost gauge
-
i told him it might be doing this because it's cold out
-
i noticed that kind of thing would happen when driving around and the temp is near or below freezing. has he done any sort of mods to the fuel system, intake, ecu, whatnot? if he only has free mods, then the ecu will still be giving it plenty of fuel and it should be just fine
-
or it could be just that his car blows? lol j/k...its gotta be the weather

-
all he has done to it is 2g pistons,ss springs,ss retainers, stock valves, shaved crank and the free mods. that's it
-
no, those mods would not make you run 20+ psi of boost... cold weathers have been known to cause boost spikes... just be careful... if you have a datalogger available, make sure you're not knocking too bad, if so may you should richen it up or stay off the throttle when it's too cold.

would the cold weather make my boost be 20psi+ with no boost control??In no boost control are you talking no MBC/EBC or no control at all. As in the stock BCS has been disconnected? If the BCS is disconnected with no other control it would be easy to hit 20PSI in this weather. If the BCS is still connected I would try and steal one from another DSM and see if it fixes it....BCS may be bad.

he has the stock bcs

ok, i'll let him know that, i just think the boost is going up because of the cold weather and i've told him that and he thinks it is another reason.
-
It will make it go a little higher because of the denser air but 20PSI+ is excessive. Does he hit Fuel Cut? I have my MBC @15psi and if I get on it I fuelcut all over hell. Reminds me I had better turn that down.
-
not sure, it does pop alittle at higher rpms

What is BCS? Boost Control System? what? I take it that he's just using the stock wastegate actuator. Having boost go up is a normal problem with internal wastegate's... it's called boost creep.

Reminds me I had better turn that down. The reason you are prob fuel cutting is becuase your running to rich without any sort of fuel control. You have a Walbro pump, bigger injectors and no S-AFC if I'm remembering correctly...
When I had nothing but a fuel pump, a bigger turbo, stock injectors, and a boost controller, I fuel cut on cold days, a quick tune and that was all gone...

yea mine fuel cuts too when i full throttle it in cold weatherLT, if your still running like 25+psi of boost, there's something wrong, no matter how much you richen / lean it out... somethign else is messed up... if your constantly hitting fuel cut, you should get it fixed before after time it goes kaboom.
Anyway, running 20psi on a 14b isn't terrible, you'll prob blow it up eventually (the turbo) but it doesnt matter. The one thing you don't want to do is be running it too lean though... if its a matter of its fuel cutting because its to rich, you should see if you can control the boost / replace the wastegate actuator, and get somes sort of tuning device; if its running lean, everytime you romp on the gas your most likely causing it to knock, lucky for us, our dsm's can pull timing to adapt... but theres only so much timing that the ecu will pull and then your fucked... hello new engine.
