DSM Timing Belt Question

I know quite a few people on here have done a DSM timing belt before. I am wondering what you usually use for parts? Do you use OEM Mitsu stuff or just go to the local auto parts store and pick up what you need there? Thanks for any help.

what parts are you talking about? if you need belts you can get them at any auto parts store if you need pulleys and stuff like that mitsu is the way to go

Well my water pump started to leak, so I am going to replace the water pump, tbelt, tbelt tensioner, and pulleys. Will probably also replace BS belt and tensioner/pulleys.

I am not a DSM guy. But I wont do with anything other then OEM for timing stuff. Unless there is a "upgrade" that is proven to be better.

As far as the water pump where ever is cheapest.

if there is nothing wrong with the tensioner or pullys i would just leave them. they last forever in most cases.. just get and oem waterpump, timing belt, bs belt and you will be just fine

OEM everything..........belt included (some good aftermarket belts area available, but they are double in price...they are just as good or better than OEM, however...DO NOT go with some random belt from an auto parts store...I learned that the hard way)...is risking your whole motor/time really worth an extra $100-200 in parts?

Do NOT go with a greddy belt. A few cases of the things falling apart!!

If you're going Kevlar go with Power Enterprise. Otherwise, just go OEM. OEM Everything, NO Topline, NO contitech(or wtfever).

JNZTuning.net has pretty good prices on OEM Mitsubishi timing parts(Cheaper than most places around here, or on the net for that matter). If you can't find it on the site, call them up, don't be scurred, they will help you figure out what you need and won't alienate the shit out of you. A+ guys there.

Ok I will go with all mitsu stuff. One other thing though, do I really need the special tools or can I just use something I have around that will work to set everything?

There's a guide somewhere's to make a Tensioner Pulley tool. It's a needle nose with the tips ground down to be thinner and bent at a 90* angle to put in the 2 holes in the actual Tensioner Pulley.

OEM for anything important on most cars unless something else has been PROVEN consistently better, as a general rule.

I know practically nothing about DSMs in general - so I'm gonna have to ask -

• what the hell is the BS belt for? keeping down all the BS that comes along with owning a DSM? =D

"bs belt" balance shaft belt make the motor not viberate so much... 10lbs of crap you dont need

Ya I ordered all the parts off mitsubishiparts.com today, I have used them before and they have really good service, and were $20 cheaper than anywhere else. I will tear it apart this weekend and hopfully get it all put together a couple weeks after that.
