get a samsung...not much more and soooooooo much better...their contrast ratios are AWESOME at around 15,000:1 on their 40" models...spend the extra few hundred bux on a good tv...you'll be glad you did.

IDK about Vizio TVs in general though besides the fact that if you put it side by side next to a good brand name tv that they look like shit...just like Insignia and Westinghouse...Polaroids are HORRIBLE. a buddy a mine has had one for just a few months and it slowly had features quit working and now it just doesnt work...they are worthless.

Too bad there is no standard for contrast ratios so samsungs 15,000:1 might be the exact same as X-Brands 4000:1 ratio...

    Nice try though!

BTW I have a Samsung and absolutely love it.

    http://www.practical-home-theater-guide.com/contrast-ratio.html

The unfortunate thing here is that there is nothing mandatory as to the methodology used by manufactures to measure contrast performance of their projectors or display devices, nor are manufacturers obliged to at least specify the method used to arrive at the quoted figures.

This renders a straightforward comparison of contrast performance figures between different imaging devices - especially from different manufactures - almost meaningless.

I'm really picky about computer stuff, and have had my share of high end monitors and all that shit.

Especially with plasmas, there are only a few select manufacters the rest are OEM's... You'll find common parts in alot of them.

I don't really ever buy that extra warranty stuff, and generally have had good luck with it all, I figure by the time it breaks I'll want something bigger and better... (had bad experiences with best buy extended warranty before which led me to belive its worthless)

TV's are yet another one of those things where "you get what you pay for" is way too true. You have to be able to compare all these tvs side by side on the exact same video source in order to see the picture quality differences.

I'd like to buy a new one to replace my 29" tube TV but I can't see the TV around my new 22" widescreen monitor and I never leave my desk when I'm home...

For those looking for a very good, low price unit (720p though) Crosley makes a screen that is an LG Panel and Internals w/ their own outer case...AND comes with a 2 year warranty. If anyone wants pricing, let me know.

I read somewhere that Vizios internals were made by Sony??? Anyone shed some light on this?

Also I am still a fan of DLP. Still seems like more TV for the dollar.

A lot of the Vizio's I've seen sold are from Sam's Club & also Wal-Mart.

I heard that they use cheaper internal parts for Wal-Mart products. Is this true?

Well - I know that I've heard now a couple times that Wal-Mart electronics are made by lower quality parts to give their customers even lower pricing.
I didn't know that Sears was selling Vizio, I didn't even see them there last time I was looking at TVs there.

Late Spring/Early Summer I plan to get a bigger TV - so I've been keeping my eye out for them, learning, keeping an eye on the pricing..

one site for some people to check out that I hear that is located out of the cities is....
Basically refurbished TVs with a full manufacturer warranty with the possibility of purchasing an extended warranty..
I haven't heard anything bad about them yet, but, I have heard good things so far. However, I'm not to sure about spending good $$$ still on something that is refurbished.
                                    But just figured I'd share!

Vizio is the #1 brand, and yes, Samsung and LG are better, but for the price its aittteee

Vizio is the #1 brand, and yes, Samsung and LG are better, but for the price its aittteee

I know, I was just saying...

But this still doesn't prove if the sales person was correct or not.
Is it true? Is there proof that it's true or not true?
