Jeeez...y'all are forgetting that EVERYONE thought Skylines were ugly until 2 Fast 2 Furious. Then everyone jums on the R34 bandwagon, hardly realizing there was even an R33 in the first one, haha.

They ain't made to be pretty. They're designed the way they are to incorporate superior aerodynamics, and guess what! The GT-R has a lower drag coefficiency than the Z06.

The GT-R is faster than the 911 Turbo on the Nurburgring, which was Nissan's target. The Z06 will fall to it in performance. Sales, however...I know that all the GT-R's are going fast. FL had all preorder slots filled at the beginning of the year. Whether it will beat the Z06, who knows.

        And y'all are calling the GT-R a pig...shit, a C6 ain't a featherweight either, ya know.

I still think the R34 is ugly.

Also, The regular C6 only weighs in a 3240 lbs. It's only 100 lbs more than the Z06 at 3132 lbs. Neither one are pigs when comparing it to a 3900 lb car.

I disagree that the Z06 will fall to it in performance.

Nissan has said "the GT-R will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, finish the quarter-mile in 11.7 seconds "

So there is probably a chance some good driver will get better out of it, but I don't think it will take the Z06.

I don't even care about straight line performance.

I bet the Z06 will still be on level with the GTR.

Besides, we should be comparing the Zr1 vetter to the GTR 🙂

                Bench Racing FTL

Point is, nobody on here can drive a GT-R or a Z06 at 10/10ths. It's a matter of what you like, and I think the GT-R offers a lot to like.

It will be interesting to see what they do to them in the US market -- in Japan the car is ridiculous... the ECU is tied into a GPS receiver.. you cannot exceed a certain speed unless you're at a known race track. Immediately after going to the track you need a "post track" service at a Nissan dealer for $1k.. wheels cannot be changed, etc etc. Total cock-up IMO.

It remains to be seen what kind of gayness accompanies the GT-R in the USA.

If we are comparing apples to apples the ZR-1 is the one you have to look at for competition for the GTR just because of the price tags. I love the R34s and the R33s are very sexy IMO. The new one well its not ugly but I'm not going to call it sexy either.

What the hell are you talking about? GT-R has same price as Z06.

The GT-R is being labeled as the car that is faster than the 911 Turbo at less cost. That was their intent, and they achieved it. Nissan didn't set the Z06 as their goal because the 911 and GT-R have been rivals in the European racing circles. You never hear about this because the majority of everyone in the USA cares about NASCAR and drag racing.

Seriously, this thread should be called "what's faster, my astrovan or my malibu" cause it makes just about as much sense.

I stand corrected, I thought the GTR's were in the 85 to 90k range. Base models are listed at 71k, thats ZO6 territory for sure. Did anyone say something bad about the Skyline, besides the asthetics? Its not a very good looking car but noone is disputing its fast as hell. Just it could have been better, lighter, faster, more of a skyline, and less of something that, I think, was designed with a big eye toward the US market. Its lost some of its thunder just because they are selling it here. Don't get me wrong I'm happy that we can finally get the Skyline here, it just seems like a case of "Never meet your heroes."

^ You realize most C6-Z's sell in the $80+ range with markup? Granted, we haven't seen how the markup will be on the GT-R, but the ZR-1 is still rumored to have a near 6-digit price tag, if not over.

it is not even really close, just look at the stock power:weights

If you stuck some stickies on the vette it would work the R35 on any type of course/racing you could think of....

                                    ^ True.

I'm interested to see how 450 awhp + technology will match up against 500 rwhp + rip-the-seat-off-your-pants-torque.

I've got the issue of C&D where the Z06 faced off against the 997 Turbo and F430. The Vette ran faster lap times, dusted both on the highway, but C&D still slammed the C6-Z on interior and braking, and placed the car in third! I can understand braking, and yes, the Ferrari interior is FAR superior, but still...

I'm not hating on the Z06. It is the best performance car for the money, no questions. All I am saying is that I am eager to see if the GT-R can take that title away from it. 🙂

Nissan has a battle ahead of it because of the fact that they're Nissan, and not Ferrari, TVR, Jaguar, or any of the other supercar-esque namesakes. People looking for cars in that price range are going to have a hard time looking beyond the name unless they are a true enthusiast, which is the group that ALL GT-R's have been made for, IMO.

I have driven a C5 from the pictures I've seen the interiors are not that different and I was pretty comfy in the C5, enough so to say I actually liked it. As far as the ferrari and the porsche go, well when you spend 20k on the material for your interior it had better be freaking amazing.

That's the thing though. The average enthusiast cannot afford such high-dollar cars. The people in that tax bracket are going to get a Corvette if that's what they want, and they could care less about the interior since it's all about outer image to most people that buy these cars. Same goes for Ferrari and Lamborghini, and Boxster owners.
