Start my own little thread so i don't piss parker off by putting it in his thread.

Just wanted to point out that Spatter is not present when a GMAW machine is set correctly, and in different techniques.

I used mild 1/4" mild steel and 2.5" exhaust pipe scrap, very similar to the materials joel used........... Also .030 wire well below 100 amps, so well within the range of the welder joel used............

I have another welder setup with .020 wire at the other farm, and it would of done a better job than this even, but i was welding on a tender truck and just did this after i was done

K so pics to prove material used

    legacy image

    legacy image

So this is what we are comparing it to.......Joel's

    legacy image
    legacy image
notice on joel's that there is not nearly enough manipulation of the electrode and obviously the machine is not set correctly. Also look at the bead, the manipulation (movement back/forth) is very inconsistent and varying. Contrasting look at mine, very tight movments that are very uniform and consistent
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    And mine,
First bead is just your regular horizontal steady burn with manipulation...

    legacy image

Next bead is a triggered method, on-off-on-off...... with manipulation

    legacy image

Last is what should be the nicest bead, Vertical Down, but the wire speed should of been down a little

    legacy image

Oh, yeah i just used a hand wire brush to remove the smoke/stain to show the weld, and note that there is no undercut on either member even with a large difference in thickness. Look at how the edges tie in showing good penetration and enough amperage. And put my initials on it to prove

And if any of those welds broke because of "lack of penetration" i would blow any chosen guy

Yep i like being an asshole 🙂

I dont know what else you want me to do, the other machine is smaller and has lighter wire and would of done a better job than this one even

Just wanted to show the forum members that GMAW (MIG) weld leaves a very nice weld without spatter when set and executed properly

Its alright you too have welding envy...... even with a simple of process of GMAW

zac is the god of welding, next to my boss, but thats not the point. Point is he made a clearly informative post and had very obvious results. ZBrown>all, end of story

BTW, zac is the best there is at penetration, ive seen it first hand 😉

Hey zach, I didn't ask you to do it with your welder, I said weld with my welder on the same material. Why a SMALLER MACHINE make it easier? Why is there porosity in your first weld? I thought you were l33t?
If you want me to post pics from work welding with proper equiptment, I can do that!

Also, Just because you "manipulate" or as it is called in the industy oscilate, more doesn't mean it is proper, or a stronger weld... Also, Triggering with my welder would never penetrate. And triggering is NEVER as strong as actually welding in a continuous pass. It is used to fill in gaps where heat would burn holes through the pipe. Also, Why don't you try welding a bead longer than 2 inches?

OH you have so much to learn..........I could rip apart everything you just said there but i wont, because i like it when you talk out your ass........ and sound ignorant as fuck

One thing i will say is you are totally in left field with triggering not penetrating..........

Your welds look like ass, i just wanted to point it out, I guess if you dont understand how the process even works how can i expect you to adjust the machine to not look like bird do do

I welded those three beads on that one piece because that is what i mocked up in 5 mins,

Your welds are bad/shit, just end your rant

I could flux core a bead with no shielding that looks better than what you had on there

LOL at Haterade Joel. Dude, you posted up pics, and it looked like dogshit. Thats the reality, deal with it. Sure you can weld better at work, but you didnt post up pics of that so STFU. Zac doesnt need to do a weld longer than that, he proved his point and i could guarantee that hes not pulling some shady shit like spraying it whith spatter sheild, hes better than that.
Dude, you got pwned, accept it and take it like a man, no big deal it happens to everyone once in awhile. Honestly, when you posted those pics up, i thought to myself, those look worse than some shit i do, and i simply dont give a fuck what my welds look like alot of the time.
BTW, a correctly set welder will not leave spatter, my boss has 30 years in the field professionally, he told me so.

Good job, those look nice. Its a real benefit to work with nice clean metal with good gaps and stuff, man i hate welding on rusty old farmer shit.
BTW, good story here. One day i had to weld in this chemical tank, aluminum with the spool gun right. Anyway theres only a big enough hole to get your torso through, and it was a 16ft tank, welding was on the baffles inside. I had to hang the from forklift by my feet while holding the gun and cables, 20ft in the air and get set into this thing. Aside from the stink, the shit burned your skin as it was in direct sunlight and about 90 degrees and humid that day. I thought, WTF is this shit anyway, especially getting jerked around on this fuckin forklift you know? So i had to do this shit for 30-40 minutes and it sucked balls, but i ended up making a couple hundred in cash on the deal.
So, if you ever think you have it rough, think again
