A 4.3 V8 is still a helluva lot more displacement than a 1.6L 4cyl. Oh, and there is plenty of "American" market V8's with 4.3L or less.... Acura has a 4.3 Lexus has a 4.0, Lincoln LS has a 3.9 V8.

Acura and Lexus aren't US makes, they're US brands of foreign engineering. I was not familiar with the Lincoln 3.9 (or the Olds 4.0) so I stand corrected.

The point was that Ferrari engines make excellent and often superior power using much lower displacement than US engined counterparts, even with natural aspiration. That's how ferrari likes to do things and it's part of what makes a Ferrari drive and sound like a Ferrari instead of a Chevelle. (That and Ferrari V8s are flat-plane cranks unlike US V8s)

Anyway, the original contention in the thread is trollbait and everyone knows it. Stop playing along 🙂

Displacement isn't squat without a good cylinder head and cam. Ferrari, etc use smaller cube motors because they do their homework on the heads and cams (or pay someone to do their homework). 😛

^ agreed. they may have v8 and v10 but they are generally very small displacement.

and to keep it stirring 97 cubic inches with hot nasty v-attack pwns all n00bs with v8s BTW

This can be argued all day long. Wow, Shep's talon is faster than that guys 572 vega. Or Force's funny car is faster than that honda. Anything can be made fast with $$$$ and technology.

In my mind displacement ftw. U can boost ur honda, I can do the same with a V8. Its a very simple concept.

The more cubic inches your engine has the more potential it has to build power. Its simple physics, you cant cram as much air and fuel into a 1.6 liter container as you can into a 5.7 liter one. No matter how much compressed air (read forced induction) you put in it won't balance. Sure a turbo 1.6 might make more power than a stock 350, this is where the technology comes in, due to the design of the heads, the cam profiles, flow rates of both the intake and exhaust etc. All of that factors in but if you make the 350 as efficient as the 1.6 it will make far and away more power. I would think that would be obvious to anyone when you look at what is on a race track, just about anywhere, and the fastest cars are using engine technology that has its roots in the 1950's, possibly even farther back. You can call out all the things that have changed with engines in the last five decades, but look at what has not changed.

Im pretty sure that everyone knows that all things equal, a larger displacement can make more power......but i really think only the ppl who have something to back it up against the imports should be arguing how much better their V8s are. Just like Imports shouldn't be arguing how much better they are unless they can hold there own.....Just my opinion on the matter.
