84 300zx Motor swap

You can find a VG30dett for around a grand. The jdm ones on ebay are a little more but there is nothing different about them (other than smaller turbos). 6 spd? Realy not needed unless your gonna roadrace or something. More time shifting less time spooling. I'm not saying the VQ is a bad engine just in something like this it wouldn't be worth it. By the time you drop the compression and turbo it your gonna be in deep cashwise. The VG's are pretty strong and can take 600 HP with stock internals. From what I've read the VQ will take 400-450. And It won't even fit under my hood without hacking a hole in it.

Not a bad upgrade if you wanted to stay NA. But as far as price goes you could get a vg30dett and do a few nice mods and make WAY more power than a VQ.yes, you could do that....but then you would have no engine room whatsoever...

You say that as if you'd have a whole bunch more with a VQ. Who cares if theres more room. Does extra room in the bay make your car faster? Filling it with a snail or two and some charge pipe does.

I think people who do the engine swaps do it more for the "wow" factor than power...because If you spent 10K on a VG30DETT swap for a STOCK engine, you could have a pretty badass VG30ET for that. However, If I could, a VG30DETT would be sweet, if it didnt cost so damn much for it, all comes down to pricing.

Yes it is a stock engine, that is built to take boost. VG30DE's are gonna run you about the same exact price and you will have to build it to handle boost. Snag up a ZTT motor and tranny for about 1500$ and start from there.

Im only saying that its not really worth it in my opinion, you have a Z32 so you can agree with the limited engine space and if you really wanna do some hardcore modifications the engine needs to come out....more than once.

I wouldn't mind doing a boosted VQ swap after learning a little more about it today. But I think I'm still going to stick with my VG30DETT.Also, a complete VG30DETT is roughly 1500 on osaka.
yep, the engine is....but really does depend on how you do all the fabricating and stuff.

step one. sell z31. step two. buy z32

not anywhere close my friend...lots of modifications needed to the engine bay...its the transmission that I believe is a direct fit.Yeah IDK. I'm glad I already have a z32 with the TT swap already done.

Oh well. It's totally worth working on.

Here's what the VQ35 can handle.

Guys, My buddy has a jdm vg30dett, tranny, wiring harness, and intercooler sittin in his garage on a pallet and he wants $1200 for the works. I dont want to do that swap even though it would be the best bang for my buck because of the wiring. The harness on the motor is insanely complicated and hardly any of it matches up w/ the current wiring in the car. Fabrication isn't the problem, wiring is. The 4g63 and the sr20 have very simple wiring set ups so i wil more then likely go with one of those.
