Time for new parts for the TH-400
-
Well I guess a somewhat built TH-400 wasn't enough for my car. Last couple times at the track I was pushing through the transbrake. My last time out on launch it pushed through and when I nailed second it didn't shift. Anyways drove it home and it seemed fine. Last week I put a new stator in the convertor to loosen it up a little bit and tried the brake to see what it would do with the looser convertor, same thing. Did some pressures tests and pressure was low with tb applied. Anyways went for a cruise last night, as soon as I got it out on the road no second gear at all, stays in first...
What really sucks is that a Ducati (696) came up on my ass and wanted to play, anyways from a roll I had to shift from 1st to 3rd and then he slowly walked away, I was a little embarrassed.. I guess I should have had the boost controller set at more than 10 lbs..
Gutted the tranny last night, found fried clutches and a ruined sprag so far that I can see. Parts on order, who wants to put this together Friday night before P-10 for me???

That realy sucks. do you have the car registered for p10?

Any specific reason this happened, or was it pretty much just a weak link?In for pushing lol.
Made a few calls this AM, the second gear sprag is the toughest stock TH-400 sprag they make. They said it would have lived 1,000+ in a light car. About 750 in a heavy one, hmmm maybe I didn't tell them what I had and what HP levels I was going to be at when this was built.... Anyways found a custom part, but takes a new front drum with it $$$$ should be good for 2000 hp.
Thanks for the offers on pushing it in. Parts should be here Thursday. I am trying to get back into town Late Thursday night and start rebuilding it. Hopefully all goes good and I can finish by Friday night. Gotta learn how to do this stuff sometime...

Bill, don't forget Dave has the 4 wheeler to pull your beast in the show....we used it for Probezilla last year.
Ha, I was just thinking the same thing. This will be the first year we've been able to drive both of our cars into and out of P10. It seems only fitting that we pulls Bills car in.

Bill, I thought everybody could rebuild/modify GM Turbo 400 transmissions blindfolded :icon_scratch:Do you have any info on the brand of parts used on the original build ?
Well I guess I'll see you Thursday night. I can drink beer while you are putting it together. Nothing really wrong with the parts that were in it. They were just your typical TH-400 rebuild parts for racing applications just not good enough I guess. I talked to a guy with a heavy car like mine. He rolled over 6 sprags before he finally changed out the front drum to fit a 36 element sprag, hasn't had any issues with it. Hopefully this will take care of things. Next the rearend or the motor will go.
