id keep it just the way it is, seems to me anything still marked with the reich crap is very rare, especially since it is against the law in germany to have anything with the swastica or reich paraphernalia on it. my buddy has a mauser from that era, and it seems to me it is some really odd calibre, like 7.64 x 43 (and no its not 7.62
)or some wierd crap like that. heres a link that might help. http://gk43forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=69187.92 x 57, .323, or 8mm, whichever you'd prefer to call it

It was his dad's...no clue where his dad got it nor if he was in the war but I'm assuming so

damn i think that is so cool , stuff with some deep history to it. and probly has a pretty crazy story to go with it as to how it got in your grandfathers possesion. o man i could about imagine what that gun has seen if it was actually used in the war

That really interested me too Brandon, although I'm thinking it probably didn't see MUCH war, if any, being as it was made in 44. Either way I find it interesting and cool to think that this gun was made by Nazi Germany in WW2.

Its just so weird to see things like that from so long ago. It was such a bad time , and seeing things like this just kinda reminds you that that stuff happened.
Reminds me of american beauty when that kid shows his girlfreind his dads dinner plate from ww2 with the swastika on the bottom. Idk i just think that stuff is interesting lol

I might know some ppl that could tell u a lot more about, I just dont remember where around here they are from... We have a few ppl that are very knowledgable about those kind of guns that set up at our shows...
Definately a collectors items with the Nazi stamps and stuff on them...

Ebay! Lol jk

my dad collected all sorts of nazi/ww2 memorabilia and weaponry before he died. I've got all his books and references somewhere at my parents' house. There's an off-chance I have something extremely helpful in there.. and I'm not sure how willing I am to start sorting through the boxes. because it sucks. so i'd do my research on the interwebz first. i know the mosin nagant fans have a really good site.. i'd figure the mauser stuff would be even more well-researched and documented.

One of the guys we were hunting with one year was hunting dear with a 9mm mauser with a big swastika engraved in the stock and a german eagle on the forearm. Peep sites.. sweet gun. And he was hunting deer with it lol
Another one of the guys we hunt with uses an 8mm mauser
