My air cooled crank
-
Got the turbo and header off so far, got two holes in the block and the piece in between isn't held on by much. Looks like #3 failed, I can see the main part of the rod in the oil pan, so either the wrist pin failed or the rod bolts failed. My guess would be wrist pin.
You can see the rod sitting in the oil pan in this pic, the wrist pin hole in the rod is there, but wrist pin is nowhere to be seen. Thats a fairly big piece of aluminum behind the rod, I guess thats part of the piston.

that sucks!

Wow more carnage pics!

Nope, it had stock crank and mains, but had carrillo's and JE's. Got the head off tonite, still not exactly sure what caused the failure. #3 piston is stuck in the cylinder at an angle. I got the crank rotated a bit and got the rod out through the side of the block.

Gonna need a dingle ball hone and 1 new rod and piston, should be good to go!
Looks like you need to go with the billet rods and a larger pin like matt has for next year, that thing should take a 300shot, 150s are for sissysand a bucket of bondo to fix the hole in the block. then your set!
