my friend has an 82 ford fairmont. he wants to upgrade it. it has a 200 CID Thriftmaster Six I6 under the hood what can he do to get some more pony out of it?

The fairmont is a fox body so anything you could do to a 79 to 93 mustang. 460 swap nukka.

its not my car it my friend thoore's. he got the car for free. he just wants me to get some idea's for him so i am. i like the 5.0 idea. if he does a 5.0 it would be the H.O from a 94 cobra svt. like i used to drag race with my uncle in NH

The HO 302 came in a couple flavors, technically the cobra had its own engine. And if you want one its big $$$, Relatively speaking. The mark VII had the HO motor the 86 up mustang did and some cougars and t birds as well. Beings the car is carbed buy a 351 from a mid 80's van or pickup, do a budget rebuild with a hot cam, intake and headers and you'll be making around 280 crank power. To get to the next level you need better heads, a used set of aluminum ones can be had for $500 to $700 and will put you around 320ish crank hp depending on the cam, intake, carb, and compression you go with. That said even with good aluminum heads you could build a nice 351 for around $1500. The carbed big block is a little pricier but with just a cam, intake, carb, and headers will make 350 to the wheels.
