95 Civic EX Problem

Hey. I just got my civic on monday, and its already acting up. Its the 1.6 vtech. Its makin a funny sound around 3200 RPM. Its a very quick clicking/buzzing. It kinda sounds like an electric motor running, or if youve heard the nitro powered rc cars, it sounds like that. Its only aroung 3200. not any other time.

check your spark plug wires to make sure they're all connected properly, it's the sound of electricity arcing. i experienced this with my dsm shortly after installing my 10mm wires

ok. They ar connected properly so what would cause the arching.

i think its your powersteering, just take it out

its not PS. Its not arching. Its metal on metal coming from the motor. its only around 3000 rpm. Nothing else. its a tapping/rattling. I am goin to take the PS out tho sometime.

Does it keep getting louder/faster as the rpm's climb? To me it either sounds like valve tick or rod knock.

no, its only at that RPM. It doesnt get faster or louder or anything. it starts at like 2800 and ends at 3000 not getting louder or faster between those rpm's. it sounds like valvetrain but its not changing like i said.

How much would it cost to fix if it was a rod knock?

How much would it cost to fix if its valvetrain clatter?

it was a joke about the powersteering. While your in there, take out a/c condensor!

AC, and PS are goin to go eventually. I only need the heat for winter. I have windows for summer.

Could it be anything else vibrating externally that just sounds like it's internal? Even just the belt at a certain resonance?

Its internal. Ive narowed it down to that. It sounds like valve train. If someone wants to meet me somewhere tomorrow to hear it that would be great.

The noise is only when im not on the gas. if im on the gas i can hold it at 3000 and it doesnt make it. It doesnt make it when im excellerating through it.

Does the motor have to have a load on it in order to make the noise?

Nope, i figured out that its a heat sheild. dont know what one, but is a heat sheild.
