I figured some of might know or could point me in the right direction. I'm probably buying a 91 eclipse GS 5 speed that had a timing belt go, bent valves carnage etc. I believe it has the 420a 1.8 sohc how hard would it be to swap in an n/a 4g63? The original plan was to fix it then sell it, I still might but I started thinking about keeping it, to replace the impala as my dd, and getting what I really want.

I might do a budget turbo build, if anyone has some parts.

first figure out what engine it has...it either has the 4g63a or 4g37 (which is the 1.8)

either way your probably wasting ur money on a FWD model...

How is it a waste of money, you have no idea how much I'm spending? Besides I probably won't keep it, I'm not a big fan of 4 cylinder engines or front wheel drive, but I'm basically being given this car that has a few mechanical issues and peeling clearcoat but otherwise is in good shape. I should at least double what it costs me to fix it if I sell it, since I have access to most of the parts ill need for next to nothing. The only way ill consider boosting it is if I decide to keep it, or if I can sell it for that much more.

well for 1, you dont even know what engine is in it, besides the fact that its a 4 cylinder.
#2, those cars sell all day for less than $1k.

Yup and I'm paying a lot less than that. Besides, if you had bothered to read, the actual question I asked was what would a swap to a 2.0 DOHC entail. I have access to parts for both for basically a song and dance.

With something like that, i would just swap in the cheapest motor i could find, turn around sell it and call it a day. I've never been to big into the DSM scene but with the amount of people that do that swap, i would imagine it isn't that hard.

I can get a running 4g63 parts car for $40 I think is what he said he wanted so yeah its cheap. Plus I can buy the parts for the 1.8 then sell it too. Thanks Matt.

Buying a car with a low resale value with plans to fix it up and sell it for profit never works out well... don't waste your time on it josh.
