OK, I have to ask, when was the last time you worked a 40 hour week?

mmm, december 27-31st i put in about 50 hours, but since then nothing over 15. It difficult when i only get 1 or 2 days every other week, plus having to drive 130 miles there and back

The 30 day permit is to allow you to drive the vehicle until new plates arrive.

I'd be careful when buying a car you plan to beat on and plan to sell right away, could be some issues.

I respectfully disagree with your first statement.

From my discussions with Bismarck and personal experience, here is my assessment:

One gets new plates on the spot in ND when one goes to the DMV to pay for registration and title transfer, as long as one doesn't order personalized plates. If one orders personalized plates, one is then given a separate document which states the license plates are coming in the mail (Not this exact wording, but you get what I mean. Have done this 5 times). The 30 day permit on the back of a registration card is so the previous owner of the car can keep his own plates and so one is then forced to register the vehicle within 30 days of the transaction occurring. If the person does not, he is then driving a non-registered vehicle which is punishable by a hefty fine (~$500 I want to say)

I stand corrected, unless you are getting personalized plates you do get a new plates on site at the DMV.

However (and more my original point) is that when you simply fill out the back of your registration card, that is providing evidence to a officer that you intend to/have intentions of registering your vehicle within 30 days of purchasing it. More or less to prevent you getting a none registered vehicle ticket. However the DMV and/or state has no record of your purchase or change of ownership of the vehicle. This is were personally I would be concerned because when you go to sell the car, you are selling a car register to someone else. Yes you have there signed 30 day permit and yada yada, but still could be an issue with selling it or even if the state finds out you bought it and never had the intent to register it and pay the registration to drive it on the roads and sell it before the 30 days are out.

I'm assuming by this you are talking about title jumping as Joel had touched on earlier. I do not advocate doing anything of the sort as that can cause problems for all parties involved. What I am saying is that one has 30 days to acquire the funds or make the time to register a vehicle, if money is tight or time is short during the DMV's business hours. However, if one's financial situation is as such, I wouldn't recommend spending any money on the trip as the individual should have other priorities to take care of, first. Primarily, not spending $500+ on a trip when one can't afford the less than $100 registration.

I would love to say that I will do this, but I actually cancelled my florida spring break plans in lieu of working a full week and making some $$$$, just like most other people.
