So, how did everyone do? I know that there weren't a whole lot of us out there, I saw Dubbsy and a few others on the track. I will admit my personal times weren't all that impressive if you look at the 1/4 mile time alone.

    First run 15.2 @ 98 mph
    2nd run 15.3 @97 mph
    etc...
Then I had dave ride w/ me away from the track to sort out some shifting issues I was having (meaning my auto trans wasn't shifting fast enough and I was hitting the rev limiter on every shift). Once we got that figured out things went much better.

    14.5 @ 103 mph was about where I was averaging, my best run was 14.45 @ 106.8.

I realized I should REALLY get a Torque Converter in my car before I try racing some more as my 60' times were horrendous, usually between 2.6 and 2.8 seconds (I have one ordered, but I could get one faster if I just pull my stock TC and send it in for modification rather than wait for a new one to be built for me). I'm hoping w/ a good TC I can get those numbers down to 1.6 to 1.8 and thereby getting my car to run mid 12's (assuming you run .2 seconds faster for each .1 second you take off you 60 foot time) which is all I really set out to do anyway this year.

I thought they simulated a 12.2 run with your current setup at the dyno? Damn that's quite a difference. When they simulated did they assume like a 5mt or a TC? How does the 4EAT respond to TC; as in does it hold quite well considering its still a 4 bolt transmission and flexes quite easily as in the 5mt's? The 60 foots are kind of expected for one of your first times at the track especially with the 4EAT, but with an 18g, FMIC, tuned, I woulda at least expected 110-115 trap speeds.

Just kind of amazing the difference between drivetrains, your car with the mods as is ran those times and I barely ran a high 13 with some crappy 60 foot's (2.0-2.4) with an MBC & TBE alone. (Back in Brainerd where Nick and Kevin gave me a large amount of s*** too for my time)

Keep me posted on the car after the TC/drivetrain work definately wanna see what happens with it. But if your up for a run with maybe Kirk too we can all line up for sure.

they did simulate a 1/4 and it did do it in 12.2 on there, not sure why the differences, but I trust a timeslip more than a computer w/ rollers attached to it. Um, when they simulate they have you run the car until the rollers determine you have gone 1320 feet, there is no need to assume 5mt or 4eat, 1320 feet in a certain number of seconds is 1320 feet, regardless of transmission.

Who said it was my first time at the track? I have about 10 weekends under my belt racing 1/8 mile, there is nothing I could do to better my 60' times w/o switching out the TC. As for the 4EAT holding up to the power, Jorge on Nasioc is running over 500WHP to his I believe, all he has is a TC and a Valve Body. For what its worth, I was running faster than the at least one of the STi's at the track that day, I never got a chance to line up against them, but I did pay close attention to their times. Also, I was about on par w/ the EVO that was there as well. I'm assuming that once the TC is in, I should be able to easily reach 110's or higher.

I agree, the 5mt is a better platform for getting raw speed, however having to pay for clutches and a tranny (when it blows up, which everyone seems to have happening if they race them at all) makes getting more power out of my auto seem like a good idea. I drive my car HARD every day, and my tranny is holding up just fine. Consider the fact that I practice launching at least 10-20 launches per week and I think the fact that the transmission is running perfectly (after 32000 miles) yet is enough justification for me running a slushbox. (not that you said it wasn't a good platform, I'm just clarifying why I have one...that and my wife drives my car on a regular basis)

EDIT: According to TXS their 5mt WRX w/ an 18G and FMIC has yet to crack the 11's, best thus far has been 12.11 w/ spray according to Nathan. So for me to be getting close (theoretically, w/ higher stall TC) is a pretty good feeling considering I am w/o spray and probably always will be.

As for running w/ Kirk, sure, I'm all for it, I'm out of town until Friday night (and I don't know what I have going on this weekend for sure...gotta ask the wife). The only deal is we go a full 1/4 mile, I will get STOMPED in a stoplight race, my car doesn't even spool until I get to about 330 feet, my 1/8 mile times have actually decreased compared to stock turbo (by a full second) due to turbo lag presumably.

geez, I am just rambling here, I am making zero excuses about my times, just clarifying what I need to do to make them better.

I was out there running my ghetto hatchback. On slicks without the juice we got it down to a 14.65@89 mph. 60ft times are still shitty at like 2.0-2.1. Gotta love that whopping 140HP!

I watched pretty much all of chucks runs, and tried to help out with some ideas to get the car to launch better.... but basically there was nothing that would let the car launch, because it would not build any boost off the line. you could hear the turbo light up somewhere around the 80-100' mark. I think my Nissan truck would give him a run until the 100' mark. 😉 With a higher stall converter, it's gonna be a world of difference.

yeah, I finally took the damned SS down! ...by all of .003 at the stripe.

Times were crap really. Haven't paged through the slips to figure out what my best was...
....okay, 15.653 @ 89.10... (which is down from a best of 15.26 @ 92 earlier this year) Heat was deffinetly an issue... (losing a tenth in the first 60')

Either way, good fun! (atleast running with that SS 5 times and coming up so damned close every time [managed a .005 and .006 redlight on 2 of them])

nice reactions, I had a .012 and a couple in the .025 range, so I was very happy with those. Again, very nice reactions and congrats on putting that SS away

heh, unfortunately they were to the wrong side. Wish I could go out there and consistently cut sub .020 lights.....need practice (and honestly, once the windows go up....that heat will start to get to a guy and screw with R/Ts...I know there was one time imparticular I was a little "lost")! Best light I cut on the right side of things was an .009 (lit the red bulb a bunch unfortunately)....and had some issues with my brakes not holding me at the line (resulting in me coming off the gas trying to reset myself and missing the light...cutting .150 lights)....

That SS "showdown" was fun. I had an overall faster car (by MAYBE 0.100) but Big Daddy Dave's 8 years of experience showed me up at the tree.

Anxious to get back to the track now!

(when is the "Warning: Drag racing is Addictive" sign going up outside of the track?)

Got my best time yet with a 9.58 @ 143. Also layed down a 1.53 60'. Figured out my gearing issues and got the air shifter up and running. Backed up the .58 with a .60, .64, .65, .66, and .69. Can't wait to get it on the dyno and get everything figured out. Might actually spray sometime this year.

Best part was, I spun off the line on the .58 run.

Other than that, I had a blast. 100 entries, 375 spectators. It was MAYHEM! hahahahahaha

No, Mayhem had 9, 10, and 11 second cars. Quick 16 qualifying was looking to be an 11 or better to make the cut off.

Actually, Mayhem had NO cars, cause it didn't happen. Sunday happened because some people can organize an event, while others can't.

BTW, there were 10/11 sec cars there, domestics too. They were looking for some fast 4 cyl cars.....they didn't find any.

There were fast 4 cyl there that couldn't put the power to the ground because Interstae failed to prep the track. Joey went up and asked the guy about prep and they said yeah we prepped the track yesterday @ noon.

Kinda hard for fwd's to run fast when then have to turn the boost down because they spin the slix threw 3rd gear. Also talked to Dave from SD as well who almost hit the wall in his camaro due to poor prep work. Not much you can say when a car runs consistant 10.8's @ their local track and cant run better than mid/high 11's @ Interstate.

"If you can't afford to do it right the first time can you afford to do it a second time?"

I remember the last time I went to interstate they had issues with prepping the track. Is this a common occurance at Sabin or what?
