I threw out some imput on here last night and tonight I see there are some good points made. When I first posted here I was under the impression it was speakers, but as others said it's preference they all excel in different area's. personally I think that when you go high end they are all close and it is really what type/size of speaker will work better in your car.

kewl. thanks for the responses! i had eclipse speakers in my last car, and i liked how they sounded, and the popular optinion is eclipse, so i will prolly go with them again

this isn't a dick-measuring contest. He asked which sounded better. good for you if you can afford that. I'm pretty sure that audiobahn subs aren't TOP of the line either. and I think there are a couple of guys who know a little more about mobile audio systems than you. KNOW YOUR ROLE!Kiss my ass, If you only knew how much I know about stereos you would be sticking your foot in your mouth right now.

Eclipse makes damn good subwoofers. So does Audiobahn. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. 99% of how a sub sounds (sonically) is determined by sub enclosure and properly tuning said enclosure to your vehicle. Just so you don't think I'm picking on you here, I sell Audiobahn but I'm man enough to admit that there are LOTS of good subs out there so I'm not going to jump on this and say something like "Yeah man, thats what I've been telling people all along, you guys should listen to this guy....." cuz Eclipse is NOT crap, Alpine is NOT crap (I'm not a big fan of their subs, but they still aren't crap).

which cheek? you really need to relax man. i didnt say you didn't know anything. I made no personal attack at your knowledge in any shape or form. I simply said that there are more than liekly a few people on this board that know a little more about car audiob than you... People who have owned shops for 10 years, people who do custom CF work better than any ive ever seen, people who have the fastest leased cars in the world...etc...I'm not sticking my foot in my mouth, im just trying to help you pull the sand out of your ass and get that nose angled down a little bit more, because you are not the almighty god of car stereos. -

to be fair, I am not the god of car stereos either....and its fastest leased WRX, not leased car. I haven't done a lot w/ CF, caleb did TRE's car...but I have played w/ it a bit (CF not TRE's car)

Wannabe: I am relaxed, I just got a little pissed because everyone jumped on my case for saying "neither, both are crap (IMO)" no one seemed to catch that last part.

Both have their strengths and weaknesses.I'm going with what I know of them, last time I gave Eclipse a shot was quite a while ago and to me they were crap (alpine I will never touch again, I'm not even getting into that here). True, all subs have strengths and weaknesses, If I had my choice I would get rid of the audiobahns (which can't take nearly as much power as the company says-weakness, and don't like hitting higher bass notes-again, weakness) and get the now discontinued diamond audio mac daddy's.
But for what I paid for them, I'll keep them for a while (i got one hell of a deal).

Which series of Eclipse did you try out? Not trying to flame here, but my personal experience is that their top of the line sub (I forget which model/series it is) has been superb. I'm sure that anyone that has heard Taylor's (TRE) car would agree with me...his car sounds great considering it has a 15" sub, its musical enough that you'd think it was 4 8" subs and loud enough that you'd think it was 2 15" subs. Hats off to Caleb @ Type-R for the install on that.
Also, which series of Audiobahn do you have? That would make all the difference as well. As for power handling, I've not had an issue w/ Audiobahn not handling their rated power in a proper sized sealed enclosure. Ported enclosures don't do as well as their sealed counterparts on power handling, so if its in a ported, that might be why it isn't sounding right at high power. Also, if its ported you don't want to be throwing gobs of power at it below its F3 point as that WILL damage the sub. A good subsonic filter can take care of that however. I've not heard of any subs having problems w/ upper bass frequencies...assuming you mean around 60 to 80 Hz. Anything above 80 Hz should be handled by the midbass drivers anyway so as not to pull the soundstage to the rear of the vehicle.
I do agree somewhat that Alpine subs aren't something I'd personally buy either...but they are hard to beat for the price at times. Alpine makes nice head units and amplifiers, but their speakers have always left me wanting a bit more from them (actually, just about any company that makes a head unit, or rather is known for their head units, has left me wanting more from their speakers and subs....except Eclipse)
Another interesting point is that A LOT of companies don't make their own speakers, but rather design them and have them made by another company. Vifa for example makes a lot of speakers for other companies (including some, if not all of the eclipse lineup). I guess if I had to pick my favorite sub it would be the Dynaudio MW190. Expensive, but worth it.
