It's kinda like when you install your first cd player and something doesn't work so you pull the dash apart 3,4 or 5 times then finally realize, that you just blew a damn fuse.

The satisfaction of doing it and finally getting it done and knowing you did it yourself will greatly outweigh all the bullshit you went through to put it in.

Don't worry all that hp that you will gain with the intake will make it worth it.

I installed an intake on a 99 V6 Stang a few years back and that only took maybe 1/2 hour. I am not sure why it would take so long for your car.

Ok so me and my mom put it in this morning, finally. Amazing how much easier it was with a 2nd person. After we finally got the piping fit in and through the rubber thing that kept popping out on the fenderwell mount, it went like a breeze (prettymuch). Got everything reattached and it worked, there is a little bit of a difference, not much, but i wasnt expecting to drop 4 seconds or anything. Then when me and kenn were gunna go to BK today i started it up, it was idling REALLY bad, then died. Popped the hood and one of the hoses had come off from the piping so we went to wally world and bought some hose clamps and it works fine now, there might be a small air leak somewhere but i'll get that checked out when i care. My check engine light has also been on for awhile and we used our scanner and it said "mixture too lean" so some advice would be to disconnect battery, let the computer die, and then start it up and let it recalcuate everything? or what should i do. At least its on now, thanks for the ... non flamish replys to my venting

I would start by doing what you said... and see if the computer can calculate the air/fuel mixture correctly again. If it still comes back after you reset the computer... it might be time to replace your O2 sensors. Another think to check is your mass air sensor. Try and clean it off. That can throw everything all to hell too. Good luck.

Stupid rubber pieces that are supposed to hold the oxygen sensor
I'll assume you're meaning ACT sensor?

but yeah, check for leaks, unhook the battery (or pull the EEC fuse in the fuse-block under the hood...however on a mustang/3.8L I couldn't tell you which one it is)...
Make sure your MAF and ACT sensor is plugged in (should be a breather or two as well, make sure those are secure and there aren't any holes/bungs unused/open).

How is the MAF positioned with the tube? It's been argued that a bend directly before the MAF causes an inaccurate reading (airflow isn't uniform across the diameter of the MAF).

and like 5.0 said, clean the MAF. Q-tip and rubbing alcohol IIRC.

And it's an Intake Tube... the Intake bolts on to the heads, then the plenum, and throttle body, and then the intake tube. (just a little pet peeve I've got)

So here is the visual explanation now....

in the first picture, the yellow circled areas were the things that made the install hell. The stupid strut support is right in the way and allows NO room to work with after the piping is under it. Then the stupid sensor i circled (dont know which one it is, 02?) didnt fit in the hole so they supplied the stupid little rubber piece to make it sit in place, but that was the piece that kept on popping right through and falling into the piping, requiring me to take the whole piping apart again. Then that last clamp was a problem lastnight and a breeze this morning just because there was about..ohhhh.....2mm between the 2 pipes when the lower pipe was all the way into the fender and the upper one was on the TB. Then when i got this all in and working today, the part that disconnected was the pipe leading from right above the BBK emblem to the plenum, so i just put that pipe fastner over it and hopefully everything holds.
                                legacy image

Then we move on to image 2. The hole in the fenderwell where the piping slides through had the same thing the 02 sensor had, where whenever i would try slide the piping through the rubber part would bend, fold, and pop through the hole and down into my damn fender.

                                legacy image

And yes i have a very dirty engine bay 😄

                                        1. Remove the STB. Probalby not more than 2 bolts on each tower and 2 on the firewall. If nothing else remove the bolts on the towers and loosen the ones on the firewall so you can pivot the STB up. No sense fighting around it when it's easily removed.

                                        2. the sensor is your ACT sensor. Measure the temperature of the air entering the engine. O2 (oxygen) sensors are found in your exhaust, probably 2 pre and 2 post cat sensors. With a screwdriver and 10 seconds of patience, you could unplug that sensor, install it into the pipe out of the car, then install it all together. Just remember to plug the sensor back in afterwards.

                                        3. When you were trying to get those 2 pipes together for the adapter coupler, was the pipe already on the TB? Try it the other way around if so. You should have enough room (even with the STB in place) to the outside of the car so that you can slide the TB pipe into the adapter/coupler, then over onto the TB.

                                        4. the fenderwell piece... Did you remove the spash guard? I'm betting you didn't, so there's probalby the solution to making that part easier for you. Granted that (I'm assuming it's some sort of rubber grommet type deal holding the pipe into the fender well?) issue with it pushing through would still be there, but you'd have more control to fight it from the back side. Removal of the splash guard is as simple as removing your pass. side tire, and probably no more than a half dozen of each screws and push pins.
You could also probalby try a bit of soapy water when pushing that through as a lubricant.

                                          2. the sensor is your ACT sensor.

You could also probalby try a bit of soapy water when pushing that through as a lubricant.

wish i coulda known some of thta before 😛 oh well its in now, and if things dont work out right i'll keep that in mind. I also toyed with the idea of taking the STB off but didnt want to hastle with taking more off. If i ever need to take it off for cleaning or whatnot though ill refer to this thread.
