opinions on air compressors
-
I currently own this compressor.
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=42321THis thing was great for a first compressor with small tools and easy bolts but it has become way to small and can't keep up.
I mainly use air tools like impact wrenches, grinders, and cutters just for car work.
I want my next compressor to be my last so if i decided on bigger things like an engine lift i wouldn't need a new compressor.
I really only want to spend $600-$700 but will spend more if i need to.
What are the big dogs using for compressors? Can anyone suggest a good one? -
Not a whole lot more than what you prolly paid for the one you got..
33 gal vs. 5 gallon (6+ times the amt. of air space)
Air delivery... 6.4SCFM@90PSI & 8.6SCFM@40psi vs. 3.8SCFM@90psi & 5.0SCFM@40psi
Max PSI 150 on the craftman...
Vertical, doesn't take up much space.
2 hp vs. 1.75 you already got..Roughly the Higher the SCFM the more tools that can be used... Some tools don't take much power to run, some do.. For ex: an impact wrench will need more SCFM vs. an Air-ratchet..
Not necessarily need the craftsman, but just putting it out there as a comparison.
Guess it comes down to what tools you run the most..
Find out what the SCFM requirements are and maybe shoot for something that puts that maybe pushes out a lil higher SCFM for just in case reasons..
thought my thoughts. -
Ya.. Generally an average size is roughly 30..
smaller tanks will just kick on more frequent..
but won't take as long to fill up -
We use a 60 somethin and it is more then enough to run big impacts and griders but its too damn loud.
-
60 isn't really portable, 30 is..

I was under the impression he was talking about an air compressor for a shop or garage. 30 isnt exactly a treat to lug around either.
-
show me a pic of a 60, I don't remember what we've got back home. It's kinda sized like my fish tank so I think it's a 30 and it does just fine.
-
ya well I figured coming from a 5 gallon, a 30/33 would do just fine & a 33 gal vert. can be used stationary no problem...
And he could save extra cash.. by not going the 60 route..
easier to lug around if needed, but just as easy to leave stationary.. and should for the most part get the job done. -
This will be going in my garage and does not to be portable. I was under the impression that the tank size didn't matter. It was the size(hp) of the compressor that mattered. I thought i read somewhere that for every hp the compressor would flow 4.0 cfm at 90psi.
Can anyone explain this? I will take a look on google also for some more info.
Like i said i don't want to have to but another compressor in the future so i'm not worried about saving money now because i won't in the long run when i have to buy a bigger one.
