Problem with dsm.....lol
-
I just got a 90' tsi awd and i seam to have a problem. When i get on it it boosts fine then will boost/fuel cut really bad at like 5 grand. i'm going to hook up an aftermarket boost gauge to see if it is boosting to much. also i have a whining comeing from around the transfer case or trans when driving at higher rpms like 3500 an up it gets louder. some help would be great. I have never owned a dsm befor so i'm kinda lost...

I know i should probally just walk away but i need a good dd in the winter and what is better in snow then awd and boost is fun....

Do a boost leak test..You will probably find the source of your fuel cut. And get the Boost Gauge hooked up, that will also help you to see if your turbo is boosting properly/ also if your wastegate is working.

ok i had a coupler off before and it fuel cut and i fixed that then the same so i will check again for leakes going to hook up the boost gauge now..

haha....nice

So now i am feeling it is the wastegate because i feel a big fuel cut at around 25 psi on the autometer guage.... so how bad is this i have hit fuel cut 4 times and now i need wastegate. also i had to derectly connected to the wastegate from the j pipe....

stock with a 3" exhaust
and i guess a bad wastegate
-
thats why i need a wastegate

wastegate won't get you more fuel. Any idea what kind of AFR numbers you are running? Besides, 25psi on a stock turbo probably is a stupid idea, at some point all turbos run out of efficiency and just become huge heat pumps (this isn't a good thing) I dunno what the magic number is for DSM's, but I'm guessing 25psi is across that line.
For more fuel look to a walbro Fuel Pump and some aftermarket injectors...and an SAFC or some other sort of fuel computer along with a wideband O2 to properly tune this thing.

I'm guessing he just wants it to be stock...the wastegate obviously isnt opening at all...or if any just barely
