I was just wondering what you guys would do first to a 3.8 camaro. Im thinking ram air and straight pipes first thing in the spring done by SLS. ECU maybe and headers. If i got the money i might put juice in it but im not to sure about it. I herd it isnt bad for your engine if you use it right.

depends on how fast you want to go. if you want to keep it driver-friendly, perhaps a 20g-ish turbo with a huge turbine. otherwise... good intake and exhaust, some headwork and aggressive cams.
scary-fast would require a different plan of attack

now now troy, he doesn't want to know what he should to do go fast... he wants to know what to do to get more power out of his 3.8. if he'd said he wanted to go fast, i would've just told him to swap in an ls6 😉

3.8s respond way better to a turbo....bunch of people make a ton of power with a turbo L36

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

I didn't think you can put a Mitsu 20G into a Camaro. In fact, I doubt it, a 4g63 manifold would not fit. Anyhow, "cheap performance" really doesn't exist. You really won't get much power spending money on an aftermarket intake or header. Lots of money equates to lots of power.

Nitrous would probably be the best bang for the buck here.

just because you use a mitsu turbo it doesnt mean you have to use the 4g63 manifold lol...drake is using a 16g and chuck is using an 18g...think about it

How would the turbo bolt on? You can't exactly put a Mitsu turbo onto, say, a Garrett manifold.

                              agreed.

                              BUT....
                              5speed or auto?

5speed - aftermarket shifter of your choice to cleanly sling through the gears.
Auto - Torque Convertor possibly. Would have to know the specs on the factory unit, but a new TC could probably wake the car up.

                              Gears - good ole standby

-straight pipes/headers. It's a V6...who knows how good that will actually sound.
I'd wait before either of those and find someone who has experience with that motor...find out if either of those would pick up any horsepower. I'd bet the heads/intake don't flow enough to warrant some huge exahust setup (and then you fight with losing the torque numbers)

for not-so-cheap performance, look into what's available for Heads (probalby an OEM port/polish job) and a cam. I'd be willing to bet Vortech has a kit for that car...if not (for some cars) they're not too hard to piece together....and go that route.

(I'd reccomend looking into a F-body forum for input honestly...)

Is this the same 3.8 that is found in the Pontiac GP? If so you could steal some ideas from them. I know there is a more aggressive rocker arm set you can get for that engine, would be a good project.

                                edit: Not lifters, rocker arms.

the turbo would be very easy and inexpensive for some quick power. 20g (or so) would flow enough for about 350-400hp. with a large turbine you could control the boost more easily, and keep it from spooling constantly. personally... i would just get some headwork, cams, and good intake and exhaust

Please don't do straight pipes. You will actually lose HP/TQ. Do a good exhaust like Flowmaster and an air intake. Put a small hit of nitrous on it and you will be very happy. If it's an auto, do a converter.

I know there was a supercharged 3.8 around here at one point. Was actually pretty cool.

Here's a site that might help you out: http://www.firebirdv6.com/ . You can be almost as fast as the LS-1's. 😄
