Performance Enthusiest Lack In ND

id show up for that.

Well the problem with the Dyno thing is no one ever comes through. Every always gets hyped up for it and starts planning for it. The day comes and 2 or 3 imports show up and the rest are domestics. We trailed a car over 3 hours to dyno tune yesterday and it sucks, but a dyno would NEVER survive in Fargo. There are atleast 5 different import shops in Minneapolis that have a Dyno, wouldn't you think that Fargo could atleast support ONE? I don't see it happen in the near future.

id be out every street legal day but im in the process off building my car, work and working on it takes up majority off time. i probably wont have my car racing at the next event but u never know, thing may go faster then planned. however i mighnt be racing another car on those days u never know. ive had a blast when i raced out there. but ill be attending for sure as always

I'm going out on a ledge here, but I think a LOT of the reason the scene is dying is because of the shit talking that goes on between ALL of the shops in town. People are hesitant to buy from Tintmasters if they have friends at SLS or vice-versa. I know that Shane & Nick hate each other (no secret) but that doesn't mean that both are capable shop owners. Is one better at some things than the other? ABSOLUTELY! But IMO the better shop (whichever it may be) shouldn't belittle the other because of it, they should just work on making themselves better. How about a joint event between the two shops? Something that both promote equally. That would speak volumes to the level of commitment that each shop has to the community. Here is how I'd envision it:2 day event:
Day 1:
Outdoor Car Show (Show & Shine) presented by Tintmasters
Dyno Tuning sponsored by SLS
Auto-X Sponsored by TintmastersDay 2
Show & Shine continues (TM)
Burnout Contest by SLS
Dragrace Test & Tune TM
Quick 8 Bracket Showdown by TM & SLSPeople still gotta show up. If they dont race now, whats gonna make them race then? Problem is half the people have your mentality where they've raced once they know what their car will run so they dont ever bother to show up again, or they say my cars slow why bother race it. Its like like an sport for say golf, do you go to a golf course golf it once or twice and never go back because you know what your score is on that course?
The problem isn't a lack of support from the shops or the older crowd, thats just a piss poor excuse. Sorry but im gonna be blatently honest on this whole topic of how i see things as i've been in the scene around here since day 1 and i know how it used to be, and how it hasn't progressed. Year after year we go to the track to see no competition, basically we wanna watch someone else put up some #'s for a chance, give us a show. Problem is there's such a gray area in the scene. You got the guys who are hard into running the times and putting up the big numbers, then you got the majority of the crowd who doesn't care to progress and are running 14's and slower which is fine because @ least their showing up and supporting the cause. There's really no middle area here you got the cars 11's and faster and 14 and slower which i find very odd there's no middle area 12 and 13 second cars around here.
Shop competition PINKS battle, lets do this!!

People saying they would show up for an event doesn't mean a whole lot unless you can actually participate. I realize not everyone is going to participate every time, but this is what happens. People just "attend" more than participate. I shouldn't be one to talk this year, but I started over on a project this year. Bottomline, to make anything work, we need participants over spectators. Spectators will come naturally as more people participate. Tell your families about drags, car shows, auto-x events. Get them to come out and support the scene. They have the loudest voice in the community at this time, so if we get them involved they will tell their friends about what their kid is doing and say its positive etc and maybe change the outlook of the community a little bit as well? We don't need spectators inside the scene, we need participants inside the scene and spectators OUTSIDE the scene.

The car scene down here in the cities is alive and kicking this summer, I done saw it with my own eyes.

What I see as the reason the car scene in fargo blows so much is that everyone has this mentality that they have to take their car to a shop to have work done on it. Thats everyones answer to a problem or question about a certain setup. Talk to tufte or talk to tintmasters. Having someone do all your work gets expensive and therefore you cannot buy as many parts.
Don't get me wrong, I think that there are places for speed shops and certain people need a speed shop, but I for one am sick of everyone always saying that you should take your car to a certain shop to get work done on it or have performance parts put on. I would be willing to bet that both tintmasters and SLS would get a lot more business if they catered more towards the domestic cars. This means not only learning about them but acting more resonsibly as well. I have been to both tintmasters and SLS and honestly have not been impressed. I certainly would not take my car there to have any work done. For example, I asked someone at SLS for pricing on drag radials in a certain size for my mustang. I never ever heard back from him. Another example, I asked for pricing on clutches at Tintmasters and all they had were some expensive ass clutch kits that were over 1k. I certainly would have bought drag radials or a clutch from someone in Fargo had they given me a good price and not just blown me off.
Sorry to get a little off track there, but thats what I see as the problem with the car scene in Fargo. Everything is too shop oriented and those shops cater towards import cars.

haha ill bet my dads been to more drags, car shows, ect then most people. LOL. and he talks to his friends about going to them and stuff. and my car has been in a shop of anykind around here twice. ill try it my self before paying someone to do it 99%of the time

this has been beaten to death with a stick. we have no place to go that doesn't include a 5 mile drive outside of the metro area that won't get us kicked out for chillin there, i'd say that dampens things in terms of meets, challenges, communicating etc. lets be real, this site by far is our only means of stayin in touch with eachother. We have absolutely no place to go on weekend nights at set times etc. Sure fargo's small enough to go from one part of town to another to meet up in a matter of 15 minutes, but thats not really the point.
and i also agree with chuck, just because not everyone drops everything to go race at the drag strip doesn't mean the scene is depreciating. Who knows, maybe everyone's gotten bored of it and wants to try somethin else. I participated in the auto-x even at the dome last year and i can't remember off the top of my head but i know there was A LOT of different kinds of cars there that you normally don't see at drag strip days. I haven't been up to grand forks either to see what the turn out has been so who knows. But every track day theres always a few people from all over the area that come so let's not say it's a dead pulse cause theres been a few dead days so far. I dont know how much advertising wise tintmasters does other then viewing it on their own forum for track days, but I know they dont do it on here anymore and lets face it, this board is WAY busier then theirs. I dont know if theyve tried TV ads, newspaper ads, flyers at auto shops but maybe that'll help to tell people whats goin on/when cause I-drags's site is ghetto as fuck and sucks ass.
but tonights supposed to be alright i guess, anyone goin out to meet/cruise?

Well, we don't even just do imports. Go look at what's in the shop right now. Now are domestics our main customer base? Not at all. It would be hard to just all of sudden cater to domestics. I do agree that domestic guys usually go bigger because they are a little older crowd with more money to play with. For example, the badass cars I saw at DB Performance yesterday. It wasn't just one either. At this point, it's both sides of the scene that need help in Fargo. Business isn't horrible because people from all over the nation seem to order parts a lot more often.

I, personally, will go around to local business' that people suggest and ask if they would be willing to let us hang out there at night if we keep everything clean and aren't idiots. I've said it before and no one really had anything to say to me. I would do this but I need COMPLETE cooperation with what ever they say, if not I will not hesitate to give the local authorities a call. You guys need to do the same. If you see someone driving like a jackass(stupid ricer shit etc), don't hesitate to call them in. Make sure they know you are part of the import crowd and are tired of the bad name you are getting because of a few bad apples. I did it once this year and I really haven't been out after that because I don't feel like just cruising. I like a hang out spot. Sure Tintmasters lets us sit out there but theres NOTHING out there. Main Avenue was cool 4 years ago before it had all that construction closed it for a year or whatever. 13th and 32nd are the new hot spots. Tell me who to go talk to and I will gladly go ask them. To get anything in this scene you have to be a leader and not a follower anymore.

The reason i haven't been to the track the last 2 years is cuz i was building my car last year and then sold it before i finished and now i have a new project that is nowhere near done. I may still run it tho towards the end of the year. I also can't make it out their because i work saturdays, and basically all other days to pay for my car stuff. I know this is everyone elses excuse too but that is why from me.....
Anyways, about the scene dying....i would have to say that it is because no one gets together and hangs out....i go to the cities and meet new ppl on Uni and they are cool and give advice and help eachother out....but when im in fargo i barely ever find anyone to stop and talk to. PPL are naturally competitive so if you meet someone and there car is tight you wanna keep up so you will do more to get your car up to there level.
Basically i think ppl need to have get togethers and be more open to new ppl stopping in and meeting eachother. Maybe something like more show and shines so ppl can learn from others. Just my $.02.

O.K. fuckers you asked for it. Here's the real reason that the scene is going down hill in the area as (I personally) see it. Lets see here there's how many performance/car related shops in town? 5?...7? including some newer start-up places. Of these places, there's next to noone that likes the guys from the (other) shops in town. And some of them literally HATE each other and would just as soon shoot the other guy as look at them. (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE) and that is where the real problem lies. The only way to get the scene going again is to do it COLLECTIVELY!!!!! No one shop is gonna do it alone I'll guarantee it. So, if you really want to do something positive for the scene.... Then put all your petty differences asside and get something going together.     .

I will go and talk to whatever business you guys think would be a good spot to meet. When I worked at Hornbacher's on 13th I know we coulda hung out there but NO ONE ever said anything to me about it. I kept suggesting it. That would have been a PERFECT spot. Big parking lot, right on 13th, etc. Everyone says oh we need a meeting spot, but whenever I saw I am going to do something about it everyone shuts up. Honestly, lets here some damn feedback on where you guys think would be a good spot. I will go talk to them. Enough of this "I wish" shit, lets fucking do something about it.
Edit: I just hate how people always talk about how cool it would be to do this or that, but when people actually put up and plan something, hardly anyone is anywhere to be found.
Maybe I'm biased, but I really don't think its on the shops back to get the scene going. It's up to US, as in you, everyone. Quit putting it on other people or waiting for someone else to fix it. BE A LEADER YOURSELF. That's the only way it's going to get done in this town. We can put it on who ever we want, but until YOU do something about it, it's not going to change. Everyone shifts the blame around, but lets face it, it doesn't matter whose fault it really is. We are all at fault and it's our job to fix it together because we do one thing, something is wrong. So quit trying to figure out whose fault it is, when we could be using that energy and brain power to figure out how to change what is going on in this town.

In response to your most recent post Tony, I am not placing blame on anyone. I'm just offering a solution. If the powers that be (local shops) can set aside their differences and combine their efforts along with some of us locals, the scene can improve. But the shops themselves need to be willing to be as proactive as the people that frequent them. IT HAS TO START SOMEWHERE!! They have alot better chance at getting results than if someone like you or I try the same thing.
