AMS oil

I have it in my Miata. I have no feelings for or against it. I'll probably run
Mobil1 or Valvoline synthetic though just because of the ease of access. I have used the Valvoline synthetic before and have no bad things to say about it either. Ultimately I should have them all analized but for the regular user it is not really necessary. If it will make you feel better about running it, then do so. -
Everyones engine is different and will function differently with each different oil type. Amsoil is a good one, but dependant upon the amount of miles on your engine (older CRX probably high miles is what I'm basing it off of) I dont think you'd benefit from it at all. I am a huge supporter of Valvoline oils and have been using 5w-30 Durablend in my engine since I got it. Haven't burned a drop of it since (these engines are known for burning oil) and it comes out clean as hell every time I change it (3K). I used Mobil 7500 high mileage oil once and I burned a quart within an oil change and it was black as hell. You'll have to base your engines best preference upon what you test the system with. And wes is right, the best way is to have the oil analyzed to see how healthy the engine is and how well it functions on each oil/filter combo.

Every motor can and will benefit from the benefits of the consistent blend and breakdown characteristics of a good synthetic oil. It will reduce wear, extend motor life, possibly increase gas mileage and (to a degree) lessen our dependance on foreign oil. I am a big AMSoil fan, I have been for years. It is the only motor oil I run in my cars. Not saying Mobile 1 or others aren't good oils, I just have had great luck with AMSoil. Just a thought here though, if you motor has high miles, you will probably want to go with a synthetic blend of some sort for the first oil change and change the oil after about 1k miles (added detergents will clean up the engine and you don't want that crud floating around for 3000 miles) after which you should be safe to switch to full synthetic, but monitor the oil to see how dirty it looks/feels.

Not disagreeing with you chuck, but for most people, unless your REALLY into getting all of your 90whp in a stock civic/crx, theres no point in paying 1/3 of what the motors worth to change your oil... If you have the money go for it, maybe think about just changing your oil more often if your have high mileage.

I stand by my original statement.

what motor do you have in your crx?It has a B18 in it. I've read that you can get better mileage, get a little more power due to less resistance from regular oil, and better engine protection. And you dont have to change it as often either. I was wondering how true all of these are. I was also planning on using the cleaner before switching over, to get the full benefit of using full synthetic.

better mileage=maybe a bit
more power=slightly....maybe
less resistance=absolutely
better engine protection=without a doubt
don't have to change as often=if you use AMSoils oil bypass filtration kit, you may NEVER have to change your oil...just add when its low and change filters every 5k miles and send in oil for analysis once a year. -
I actually did a bit of analysis on some motor oils, and the results are contained in the attached zipped spreadsheet. The machine I was using really can't say anything about the base polymers, but additives based on metals can be detected. Probably the most significant difference is the higher Mo concentration in the more expensive oils, which is probably due to more anti-wear additives being present. All of the oils pegged the Zn detector at 300 ppm.

bubba do you ahve a black crx with altezza tails?

i use Royal Purple in my dsm and in my honda...and both of my engines like it. plus its purple.
