If the bov did malfunction, you would simply backspool your turbo, which would hurt your performance, and wear out your turbo quicker, but if it only happened once, and you noticed, it wouldn't do anything probly. And you would notice if it didn't work, you can hear the turbo backspool.

i have had blitz and greddy....the blitz dd was louder and in my opinion sounded way cooler

Why will your car hate you??With a MAF car(draw through anyway), it will cause a rich situation when the throttle is closed and the air has already been metered and is released through the BOV. Not everyone has problems, however, and you can tune it out on some models as well.
