          it's a race car with 200 ft/lbs of torque.

          How much torque do you think an F1 engine makes?

          For simplicity's sake, lets assume that in an F1 engine under 2010 rules makes about 750bhp at its rules-limited redline of 18,000 rpm, and that peak torque happens at peak power. (in reality, i beleive that peak torque would be a bit lower in the rpm band)

          HP = Torque * RPM / 5252

          Torque = HP * 5252 / RPM
          torque = 750 * 5252 / 18000

          = 218 ft/lbs

          Even under the earlier rules where the formula was 3 liter V10s, unlimited on revs, and they were pushing 1000hp, there was still under 300 ft/lbs of peak torque.

                  Where do you think F1 got all of their racing knowledge from?

                  1993 240sx hatch - project/money pit
                  1998 Grand Cherokee LTD - Winter beater

                    From Honda civics of course, not 60 years of research and development by the various teams.:icon_scratch:

                      Actually, what I am pointing out is that there are plenty of race cars with only around 200 ft/lbs I'd be happy to have in my garage. None of them are honda civics, however.

                        I guess nobody ever bothered to think about most of the older rotary engines, and even the newer NA ones. The current RX8 is only rated at 159 ft/lb.
                        Unless I misremember, plenty of race-tuned S2000s are/were less than 200 ft/lb of torque.

                        What about how light F1 cars are? The minimum race weight is 620kg (1367lb). How fast is a stock S2000/RX8/etc? How fast would it be with half the weight and less wind resistance? Science rules.
