only way to keep prep good, is to keep all seasons off the track, keep everyone from driving all over the gravel, keep A/C off, and clean off tires before every run. Not gonna happen 😞

I wasn't trying to say it was the tracks fault for that. Just wanted to clear that up.

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

Class it just like Rock Falls based on car count and then run a sub 12.0 class as one since I doubt there will be very many.

Also sub 12.0 should be on a .400 pro tree. 😉

Nick, I will assure you that if you invest in prizes (cash, trophy, whatever), and make sure there is awards for everyone from 8.99 to 16.99, it will happen. I understand your cautious attitude completely, but that weekend is ours, and at the fee we are paying, they will have NO say in how we collectively choose to run the day.

Should we have the bracket "classed" racing be both days or one day? I would like to hear insight from those that are going to be there racing, and not those that just have an opinion. What do the RACERS wanna see, and Nick what do you think?

Haven't really decided on how to make it all work yet. We've been discussing this for the past week and half now and when iw as down in the Minneapolis and Sioux falls the other week i tried to draw a crowd to come down but none of them wanted to make the trip as they've had such bad experiences from the past few years so im still working on them one last time to give it another shot. What i dont want to happen is get them to come down and have the track be horse shit again as that'll be the last chance anyone will ever even bother again, so i got some thinking to do on how to make this good.

Oh I knew you weren't, I accidentally quoted the wrong post. My bad. As far as avoiding the gravel, I understand at IDRAGS it is only possible to be on gravel as little as possible, but I guess the best solution is just to wipe off tires before you get in line when ur car is on pavement.

These are just things that can help the track prep situation.

Well if it is feasible, and there is enough drag radial/slicked cars, we could have one lane for street tires, and one for race tires (for the race car, on race fuel, at the race track..hahah bringing back good ol' days at Rockfalls).... Only crappy thing about that, is we would only be able to do that for a little bit, as many of the beginners like to race there buddies, and both are on street tires.

Well, if nothing else, this thread got the two shops talking (at least on here) which cannot be a bad thing. Hopefully something materializes from this.

the cone idea thing is a decent idea, for people on street tires, i have got better traction on the street then i did at the track, in a straight line ive never had the back kick out going into second and extremely rarely a chirp into 3rd. and i was spinning in 3rd on the track. i say give the cone idea a chance.

but i do know ill be on drag radials next year maybe even for the last event.

Big problem is their shop bitch likes to run his mouth and talk shit. We had a customer in last week that said something directly to Tony about the shit he was ramblin about as well as he's talked shit directly to Kirk, Kevin, etc @ the last track day, and you Chuck even mentioned he said something directly to you in their own store. Personally if that were my employee we'd be having a little discussion as word spreads fast and its not exactly good business when we get customers in here telling us exactly what kinda shit he's been talkin.

You wanna keep stuff civil tell your punk kids to get some legit facts before they talk shit.

Thats exactly what I was referring to when I posted what I did. It is unfortunate that people can't take the higher road and put petty shit asside instead of resorting to talking smack. Believe it or not, the whole scene and those in it rely on the shops and look up to those working there and what is said directly affect the scene in one form or another. Obviously, nothing positive will come out of it either.

Shit gets said in both shops Nick and while I try (unsuccessfully sometimes) to avoid spreading it back and forth it does happen. I'm guilty too. I admit it. I'm human, I get caught up in the drama sometimes.

What it comes down to is that you two are the big players in the game around here and both have things that can add to the scene, its just that sometimes the shops are so busy patting themselves on the back for a job well done that they fail to see the need of the other shop. Tell me if this about sums it up, I wrote this over a year ago and it is stickied in this section already.

                        701-282-2902
Probably one of the best shops in town in regards to making your car fast in the 1/4 mile. They originally were known (mostly) for their fast DSM's, but Tufte has shown repeatedly that he can make a variety of cars quick (Integra, Civic, etc...) They are very competent at motorswaps, turbo design, etc.. Tufte also has a very nice looking show IS300, that was not overdone, but blended quite well. He'll probably kill me for saying this, but he is good w/ Fiberglassing and other stereo modifications as well.

                        Tintmasters
                        701-239-8468
Originally started in Grand Forks but expanded to Fargo a few years back. They seem to be the jack of all trades shop as they do just about everything from tinting to swaps to autostarts to bolt on's. It seems that they cater more towards bolt on products and/or "show" pieces. They also do some audio/video. They probably stock more product than any other shop in town for performance parts.

Now obviously you two both have grown a bit since then and your target markets may have changed a bit. There is no doubt you are going after the same customers a lot of the time but from experience, shit talking only gets you so far.

I know that not a whole lot of people are into the drifting scene per say, but this was something I found rather interesting.

One of the biggest shops in Atlanta, BATLGROUND Engineering, has been focusing their shop/demo car/racing efforts towards drifting. They used to have the 3rd fastest Supra on street tires in the world, and that was with no sponsor support.

They sell the Supra, and pick up a pair of S14s ready to drift. But enough rambling, this is what Tracy (shop employee) had to say about it:

                                Original Thread: http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=378223

                                Tracy wrote:
I'm glad that drifting is getting out there. It is so much fun. Of course what we do at the demos isn't the same way competiton runs, but the demos definately get people pumped up about it. It's so exciting to hear that people who drag race are enjoying it. It was a huge risk for us to move into drifting when we did. Everyone was saying "it's a fad". It may very well be. I don't think so....and I hope it's not, obviously. Drifting has been very good to us....way better than drag racing was ( I mean don't get me wrong...drag racing madeus what we are as a shop). We had a fast ass Supra at one time. 3rd fastest in the US on Street Tires....never saw a dime from any sponsors. Only spent a bagillion dimes on making it to the track. It was really hard on us and we really felt so disappointed after every race. It was so exhausting. Drifting is different. The cars are cheap. It's so much about driver skill and being in tune with your car. In drag racing, after a certain point, is mostly about who has more money....something we don't have much of

All of this being said, I don't want anyone to think I am bashing drag racing because I'm not. I'm just saying that drifting has been so much more enjoyable for us. With the money that we spent running the Supra...we have 2 cars to play around in.

That being said, I know it's possible to build a cheap drift car. You don't have to go balls out wild with crazy builds, and candy-pearl cars with 18x10" rims and a -40 offset.

I think it would be awesome if the shops were able to organize a drift event at any location. I know that BATLGROUND hosts their series in the parking lot of Turner Field (ATL Braves stadium). Just something to think about, I guess.

I don't know why the SCCA wouldn't be willing to sanction it, especially if you promote the idea of the whole 'this keeps kids from doing it at intersections on the street' principle.

^ a bit random, but thank you for your input...

As far as the smack talking from our shop employee, I apologize that it has been an ongoing unprofessional attitude from many within the scene...including those from our shop. I will talk to each employee individually and try put things where they should be for future endeavors. I will agree 100% with Chuck and say I have talked crap many times, and found that it got nowhere. It put customers/friends in a situation of choosing if they want to be 'cool' with us or the other end of the bashing. That isn't fair to the 'other end' that isn't there to defend themselves, nor is it fair to those hanging out and getting caught up in the conversation. I might not agree with the way things/business is handled elsewhere from time to time, but I would bet many feel the same way about us, and me specifically. There has to be those that want to try avoid the drama, and I have recently became unlightened to the idea of just doing business, and leaving other BS to those directly involved. I will openly say that I would like a business relationship with Nick and SLS, and hope that as things change (for the better I hope), relationships can be built and everyone else on here can strive from it.

Talk is cheap, don't forget that either. It isn't the guy that can talk a good game that counts, it is how they truely act that matters. I will do all I can to make this "Days Of Our Lives" drama stop.
