what size turbo on your DSM?
-
i was thinking about this today when i was looking at the turbo chart i posted up. i have an auto trans 1g, and when my 13G melted i put what i had availible on there. Well knowing this was a little big i figured i would try it anyway. Although, on DSMtuners where i frequent, most people say a 50-trim is sufficient if not big for a street car, well heres a comparison:
20G-60 inducer,52.60mm major, 68.00mm
turbine, TD06-S inducer, 55.10mm major, 65.00mmwhat i have on there currently
TO4-E 60 Trim inducer, 58.17mm major, 74.93mm
T3 stage III inducer, 56.62mm major, 65.00mmAnyway what im getting at is that i have something on a bone stock car, except for a 3" exhaust and its quite a bit bigger than a 20G. Thats freakin big for a DSM and i see alot of complaints about spool time with anything bigger than a 16G. Are these people serious or am i just that much more resilient to turbo lag? I mean i even have the stock auto cams (tiny) and no porting of any kind and i have full boost by 4500, and it pulls like a train anywhere over 4000. Currently i am running 11-12 PSi and occasionally hit fuel cut, which is very annoying. I know its too big, and im dropping it to this next week:
TO4-B S trim inducer-48.36mm, 69.85mm
Turbine is about a 50mm inducer, 58.6mm major that was specific to Buick GNs. This is more comparable, basically a 16G turbine, and a 18G compressor.16G-60 46.5 57.00
TD05-H 49.00 56.00i think my spoolup will move into the 32-3500 range and i hope to be able to hold around 4-6psi on the footbrake. with the 60-trim i can get .25-.5psi on the brake as it only spools to around 2300 on a 3000 stall converter. SO, how big a turbo you have and what are your thoughts on it? is it too laggy? too small? am i crazy? Also i am doing this all with a round 3-bolt housing bolted up to the stock 1G manifold. it was too easy to make this work BTW

i was rollin the 16g back in my dsm dayz

walbros loud?? man i must be wierd cause i dont think they are. you should hear dual intank 255s sometime, then it starts getting loud. I have to step up to the 2 intanks next winter on the buick.
Anyway you say you had 16G's, how did you like them anyway. thats what im trying to figure out. I have heard alot of comments that a ball bearing 50-trim will outspool a 16G, and make about 20hp more. And yes it is ass backwards, i was able to hold whatever i could with the 13G, and it was out of steam by 4000, now it comes on at 4000 and pulls to around 58-6200, then those tiny cams hold it back.
I am excited to drive this thing with th full manual 4-speed auto and leaving with aobut 6psi, should run low 13s pretty easy. may also put some meth injection on it and go for 18psi and some 12's

I would say the 14b/16gs make boost too fast and you really arent making power at that low of an rpm anyways.
stay with stock turbo or go with a (smaller) bit turbo. I dont think the 16G really makes much of an difference, there are way too many other variables that affect power -
Well my bros talon rocks a T4 blowzilla 61mm we get 18psi on the stall and boosts very quick, you should get a IPT Stall converter.. theres a guy who went 10.00 with a stock engine stock tranny with shift kit stall, headstuds upgraded turbo fmic injectors, supporting mods..
you can spool anything with an auto/stall and if you cant nos can...
btw 20g's are old technology, I used to ran a PTE 50 TRIM and i loved it best turbo I ever had but would always smoke and blow up... I then ran a pte scm61 and it was a little big unless you did alot of drag racing/highway pulls.
If i was gonna buy a turbo for a daily driven dsm id get:
borg wanger s256, Garret gt30r pte bb50 trim

holset hx35, great turbo, especially great price.

i had the standard big16g evo3 turbo.....it was decent.
