    drop the engine out the bottom and use a floor jack to lift the car up high enought to slide the engine out the front. thats how 99 percent of people do it.

    no race car? becuz homeowner...

      I've thought off all this stuff you guys. The car has custom traction bars that are like loctited on( I've already broke a 1/2in on it) so the engine wont drop out the bottom and I don't have any air tools. Also the jack I have doesn't appear to raise the car high enough to take the motor out the bottom even if I was able to get the traction bars off.

        what does a traction bar have to do with it?, the oem traction bars stay in place when a motor is pulled.

        ok PLEASE follow this guide.
        1 - pull trans
        2 - pull bumper/rad./rad t-bracket
        3 - lower car as far as you can on a jack
        4 - pull motor out rad hole.

        done motor is out. i'm trying my best to help you. and your not doing your part in just pulling the motor.

          Why take it all apart when you could just pull the whole motor and trans assembly out with a hoist? And the jack doesn't come close to lifting the car high enough.

          And how do you get the axle out of the hub without separating the ball joint? Just curious because that how I have always done it.

            Like I said I have a hoist and its not being used, say 10 bucks and you can pick it up and borrow it. It folds up so transporting it shouldnt be too bad.

              well you can get a real car jack for starters... haha j/k. but if your jack can't go high enough you can do what i had mentioned earlier and drop the car onto the jack (say 3-4" off ground). this lets you lift the motor out of the engine bay, ef's allow you to pull the motor through the radiator support hole once the radiator is removed.

              the reason i told him to do it this way was he seamed desperate and in need of help, and no one had a hoist. so plan b pull the bitch out with the bare hands. it would have been done in about 2 hours if he would have done it... :icon_scratch:

              regarding the axle/ball joint situation. you pull the 2 nuts that hold the upper a arm onto the shock tower, this allows the a-arm/hub assembly to swing out of the way, this allows you to slip the axle out of the hub. very simple and there is no ball joint to cross thread. only minor issue is watching to not let the hub hang by the brake line. this can tear the line. just don't be stupid.

                Really?? You must not be very creative. I have pulled motors out the bottom with small floor jacks, you can put blocks on the jack, or the jack on a block or something. And as matt explained, you can easily get the axles out without touching the ball joints.

                  Thats awesome thanks for letting us know that! I never would have thought of doing it that way, I guess I just learned that you had to separate the ball joint to get the axle out.:icon_cheers:

                    Or use the hoist to lift the car up and slide the motor and tranny out from underneath the car.

                        bp, have you ever pulled a motor on a ef? because i have many times, and i can tell you that pulling the engine/trans as one isn't very easy. as the engine bay is tiny. oh and if these kids can't figure out how to pull a motor you think they have the ability to pull the roll pin in the shift linkage and pull that before wraping around the bottom of the car.

                                Umm... if it were me, i'd just use the cherry picker... i've done it many ways, out the bottom, bare hands, etc... cherry picker seemed to be the easiest...

                                      in those 20 min, i would have had the engine half out. and not wasted the money to "rent" a hoist.
