Project Time Attack Miata

Hate to tell you this, Nick, and you probably only know, but if you've got the original 5-speed you'll be very luck to last a single track day before it shreds its gears. I'd really look into a SE/LE 6-speed. The MSM unit is nice for its shot-peened gears, but I'm just unhappy as hell with mine. Really bad shifting attributed to an improperly designed shift gate, and syncro key retardation. I am going to use my old 6 to work on figuring that out. MER racing has syncro's/keys they designed to help fix the problem.
Bob Bundy has managed to put down 350 something through a 6 without grenading it, however the 5 speed stories blowing up from 250ft lbs of tq on up are endless.

I am well aware of the 5 spd trans issues and honestly dont really care if it blows up, its an easy swap and the clutch will need to be replaced once i turn the boost up anyway.
Sounds like you've been doing a little to much forum reading... I like to do things from experience not from reading and will approach the issue once its in front of me.

Eh, if you say so. I've not blown up my own 5 speed yet, but I've been at a few track events where its happened. You're right though, at least its an easy enough swap.
I'm not a heavy track guy though, I'm hoping to get deeper into the sport in the next year. Been to a lot of tracks and events, but I've only run a handful myself.
Anyway, I love the project, wish you luck on it.

Great numbers!

11.34, 11.44 and 11.52 were the 3 best ET's. The trans will not shift @ high rpm into 3rd gear and i've had 2 trans do the same thing so currently one is tore apart on the bench to see what may be the root of the issue. At high rpm it either goes into 3rd gear and free revs as if the gear is non existant or it goes into the 3rd gear gate but somehow manages to use the 5th gear. You can pull it back out and reput it into 3rd gear and its fine, turns out it'll run 11.5-11.60's all day doing such... Short shifting 3rd around 6k rpm kevin netted the 11.34.
