Any of you tuners have a favorite watering hole?

I'm on revision 4 of my tune, and it looks like my tuner has had to pull back the ignition timing a bit over the revisions so far to avoid knock.

I'm wondering if maybe there's a better source of fuel I should try. I've been filling up at the 19th Ave N & University Stop-N-Go so far.

I know there are non-oxy stations around, but that would seem counter productive. I've never seen 93 in the area, and Brady's 105(?) isn't reasonable for a daily driver...

I have always ran Holiday Gas in my WRX's, it is also usually the most reasonably priced. Never had an issue, and my WRX was tuned pretty aggressive for the setup I had.

91 is about the best your going to get in this town. M&H used to have 92; however, I got horrible gas mileage using it so i quit. Supposedly the gas station on 25th by Ruby Tuesdays has 92 however I never go there.

      PM me for:
      Sandblasting(I use glass beads)
      Diesel repairs or performance products.

Soon! Need to get the gas tune nailed down then we'll be ready to tune for corn. Come to think of it, either way I should start running my tank down to try different gas or to be ready for E85.

I go to Fleet Farm for two reasons: First, their mid-grade and premium do NOT have ethanol (stock cars, best fuel mileage). Second, they are among the cheapest in town, most often times the same price as Loves and Flying J...Speaking of which, I will NEVER go back to Loves after getting a bad tank last summer. My stock Saturn wouldn't even run on the junk, literally my car would top out @ 25mph until I filled it up with different gas and it would start hard on it.

Maybe I should try non-oxy. I guess I was assuming that the "91 octane" e10 blends would have higher octane than straight 91.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I'm down to about 1/2 tank, another week or so and I'll be ready to try some other options.

Starting to re-think my strategy here a bit... My gas tune will essentially be my backup/roadtrip/winter tune - maybe finding and tuning for the best gas available is a bad idea. If I'm roadtrippin I may have to fill up in some small town that has not so great 91 or maybe even 89...

Maybe what I'll do is get my tune dialed in on what I've been using - then try some others and watch the fuel trims & logs to see if there's a difference. If I'm thinking correctly, switching from E10 to non-oxy should run a little rich until the fuel trims adjust for it. No biggy, I'll just have to take it easy if I switch back.

                  Why were you against non-oxy?

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

It might(and sometimes, the ethanol IS the reason it is 91..aka not worth it IMO), BUT, it also has less specific energy and less energy density.

Same reason I go to sams club. Their 87 in ethanol free. I've got around 3-4 MPGs more running pure gas vs stuff laced with ethanol. But the only other option they offer is 89 with 10% ethanol for maybe 3 cents less. But with the membership its either the cheapest or not worth the time and gas to find someone 2 cents less.

I think your logic of building the tune then testing it on other brands should work for what you want. It might not be a scientific test but if all your going to do is use it when you can't find ethanol it doesn't have to be perfect.

I just sent logs from the 5th tune revision, should be pretty soon. :icon_bounce:

FWIW, I picked up 5 gallons of E85 at Petro Serve by I29 on Main today. Looks like 80% ethanol content according to my tester. I'll probably check a few more spots around town as I go.
