i always thought that you were supposed to break them in hard also. but then i read a bunch of forms that said to not boost and dont bring it above
4k. i put about 150 miles on it and now im boosting 5psi. i figure that will be good for a few days.....

I have about 150 miles on my rebuild and it's seen 9500 rpm and 18-19 psi of boost and run out 4th gear to 150+ mph a handful of times.

It's gonna see BIG boost this week.

The way I always break my motors in is to don't give the car alot of high revs at first, but do mild boost and do 10 runs in 1st gear and then let motor vacuum pull down, then 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th etc. My motor has a 7200 or so redline, so I revved it to 3k,4k,5k, but no more than 5500. Each time let it vacuum pull to slow. Put about 30 miles on it doing this and then change the oil to whatever your going to run. Preferrably Mobil 1 synthetic 10w-30. I've had good luck doing this. 🙂

nope never went about the half way line in the heat mark, it happened right after we did a 5th gear pull to see what it was like, wasn't even at full throttle, so it was a mechanical error, not from beating on it... pulled over right away after we saw 3 quick puffs of white smoke... the overflow tank has a little tiny bit of oil in it, like 5 or 6 drops, so we shut it of in time...
