Have you thought of maybe calling a Locksmith? They can help create a key for you. Or else, go install a new ignition and get new keys and your problem is fixed. I'm sure your tumbler in your ignition has gone through wear as well so brand new keys may not even work... Just trying to save ya time.

I thought about it... From what I am told it is fairly expensive. I have a LOT more time than money right now.

I also encountered another barrier; The steering wheel lock... Does anyone know how I would proceed in disengaging it and taking it out?

if you've noticed when you turn the ignition it just supplies power to a switch.

Get a momentary 12v dc switch, and wire it up, ghetto like the rest of the probe 😛

Might just be easier to go to a junkyard and buy a new ignition cylinder that has a key already w/ it.

If not, it will be interesting doing the wiring. You are right, you will need a momentary pushbutton switch to attach to the starter wire(s) probably gonna be a black/yellow wire. As for the other switch you will need a toggle switch to be wired to at least 3 different relays.

Relay #1 will go to Ignition #1 (black/white wire) when activated
Relay #2 will go to Ignition #2 (black/red wire) when activated
Relay #3 will go to Accessory (blue wire) when activated

As for unlocking the steering, you might be able to just remove the stock ignition cylinder. Get a manual cuz I'm not sure how ford goes about removing them for this vehicle.

The downside to this is that anyone can steal your vehicle at any time if they can figure out what each switch does.

I realize that. This will be stored and only used at the track. I bought the car because it was cheap and I wanted to experiment on something cheap, and test myself on how much I can actually handle before taking on a more serious project. THere will be various break in the circuit for a theft deterant

Oh yeah, almost forgot. Trying to pull the ignition yesterday, i pulled the steering wheel, turn signal canceler ... etc. I have it all apart and access to the wires. I also have a momentary and toggle accesory switch. I am all ready, I just need the diagram and instructions on how to pull the ignition.

if its a 90-91 probe you have to drop the steering column down( remove 4 bolts) and there are 2 break away screws..the heads of the screws break off when u install the ignition cylinder...take a cut off wheel and cut a slot into each screw and use a screw driver to remove the screws...I will post a pic of the breakdown of the steering column
