Figured I would share the twins i am building

I tow rather heavy at times, and with my current larger single i get surge at lower RPM when i try to use any power.......that pisses me off......

it is great above 70mph, i can cool and run 45psi continous thenEGTs run a little high for my liking too when towing not under full power.... it just sits at 1100-1200* whether i am at 10psi or 45psi

so i am doing a smaller set of twins, should be VERY responsive, and tow like a mother at any speed

current turbo i have been running is a BW s300, 65mm billet Ti compressor, 67mm turbine, 14cm wastegated housing.....

i will carry that over to be my primary (almost identical to the BD super B special)

secondary is a holset he341, it is off the 03-04.5 CR dodges.... smallest turbo ever outfitted on the dodges....

so first thing.... dont buy crappy studs as i learned on a budies VGT setup..... so i went to JD and ordered exactly what i wanted in grade 8 legacy image

what a stock 341 looks likelegacy image

first thing is to open that WG up, it is critical since this will be bypassing exhaust around the secondary turbine
    legacy imagelegacy imagelegacy image....

hotside stuff is sch. 40 3".... and a heavy flange from buddies downpipe he didnt need
    legacy image

and how to go from round to square with heavy wall....
    legacy imagelegacy imagelegacy imagelegacy image...

I tig'd it so it should be strong, will add a brace to support the turbo from the block aswell
    legacy image...

    modded 341 compressor cover

    as of nowlegacy image

I am interested and excited to see how they act, will have more pics

If you have a cummins, dont be an idiot like me and actually fix the KDP

i never put the 5 cent piece in and it fell out and took my timing case 😞

That is why i am doing the twins right now too

instead of doing all the BS to pull the cam in the pickup to change the gearcase i just picked up jacob's 215 pump motor

figured i'd build a fresh one with some parts to keep it together

funny thing is when i pulled my original motor (260k) i pulled a rod cap and there is zero copper showing..... crazy

so just some stuff i am doing to that

here is the KDP tab installed on this engine...... and I TIGd the cam gear on so it cant walk off. (it had already moved off some)

                legacy image

here is the deck cleaned up and prepped, and the block tapped and studs installed

alot of elbow grease, I didn't use any powertools, i dont want sealing problems

head is getting worked right now, heavy valve springs/surfacing/valves/guids

                legacy image

this pic shows the thread engagement difference from the stock headbolts compared to the A1 studs. (lower tape line is deck height)

these are prefered over the ARPs, they engage the block more and don't require you to mill down the rocker stands

the bottom end got bearings, old looked really good though. (the 12v has the good fully machined forged rods)

Ok was at a stand still for a good while waiting for my head to get done.

finally got that, they did a good job, i can nearly see my reflection in the deck surface

motor is assembled, in, and running...... have one retorque done too

ill get some vids and pics of everything complete and some analysis of how it feels when i can push it some when the head is good and seated

I had said that i was going to keep it under 10psi till i got some heat cycles and retorques, but the dang thing comes up to 20psi with hardly any fuel now, such a crazy difference

with the studs it seems most either have the rocker stands milled down or the valve covers ground to get the valve covers to fit. I took a different approach

                        as such

                        legacy image

                        legacy image

and the thing already has Luke's links all around on the front end with a box stabilizer so when it was apart i spent the $$ on a Borgeson box and shaft

thing goes down the road cherry now

Ok first of all the Borgeson steering box is wow, money well spent

and the response on the twins is CRAZY, and the sounds are crazy, haha

i havent pushed it past about half throttle but there it comes up to 35psi like a light switch, EGTs never above 1000* yet

the wastegate on the smaller secondary turbo cracks at around 15psi...... up to around 25psi the primary and secondary are running about 50/50 for boost

I havent been above that much but above 25psi it moves more to around 2/3 of the boost supported by the primary

see what it does when the head is seated good... but for now it is killer

                          here are some pics

yes i was one Tbolt clamp short, and i dont have a bend necessary to fab the intake yet

here is just a shot of the crossover with the bung i put in it

                          legacy image

                          legacy image

and i reworked the harness a lot and cleaned that up, ABS crap is gone, grid BS gone, fuel heater BS gone, battery in back, fuel solenoid bs gone

you can actually change the fuel filter with ease now

yes the pickup has about 8 gallons of bedliner on it, lol

starts fine without the grids, i usually have it plugged in at home though. started in fargo at 0* without problems though. I dont have my timing advance much so that helps as does keeping the stock compression ratio

and all my stuff is old, cheap, and slow..... truth

Big thanks to Dave H! (again)

he got me a new turbo my hands in a week! great, just great

I traded my 64/68/14 for a new 66/73/.91 from dave

i felt i just needed some more turbine on the primary because drive pressure stayed nice and around 1:1 until i started adding fuel then it made a nice uphill

with the new turbo I cant imagine it working any better, boost is instant, and it builds and holds 53psi of boost with 54psi of drive pressure. Moves out very nicely, and it tows like a N14 now

I cannot get it to surge no matter what i try, I should of done this much sooner

here you can see the difference in the 68 and 73 turbine, the 73 looks much easier flowing, with a clip cast or cut into it

also i had to change the hotpipe up some for a T4 flange, i got an extended flange and man that was slick for making an easy to remove and install brace. I feel it turned out fantastic

Very cool! Do you have any dyno sheets from the old setup? It would be cool to dyno it now and compare. 😄
