    NASCAR has NOT been about "stock" cars for a VERY long time. Hell, even in the 1950's where the racing series has its roots, the cars only LOOKED stock. Most of them used heavy duty 8 bolt truck axels and huge, very non stock engines.

    the open wheelers are where its at..... when is the last time you saw a NASCAR that was 6 wheel drive? or how about a turbine engine car? there is a LOT of history in open wheel racing, what has NASCAR brought us in the way of technological innovations? they are still running CARBS for godssake!

    Im just "not a fan" I guess.

    Maybe they don't understand that 1.3 seconds was the difference between 1st and 10th in qualifying

        I couldnt remember the times exactly, but I like Gordon, and besides his first lap "off" he did pretty good. He was all smiles after the drive, and could not believe the braking power of an F1 car.
        I think it cool that the teams I guess, dont paint the very leading edge of the cars, so if they get rock chips it doesnt effect the balance, or performance of the car.
        I usually will watch nascar if it isnt an f1 race weekend, BOTH are entertainment, just a different flavor.

          what can i say, phats? you seem to be an exception to the generalization. just like how it's not supposed to be possible to cook chicken in a microwave oven and eat it (being as it usually comes out rubbery); whereas, that is one of my favorite ways to cook because it takes less time and i can prepare very tender chicken that way.
          there are almost always exceptions to everything

              No i agree with what you saying, it's just that as long as you realize there is a exception to the rule.

              Like jeff gordon, He's an exception to the rule for nascar drivers, well at least i think he is.

                to me, nascar>f1 because nascar's dont have any aids as f1 cars do (i.e. traction control) because its not allowed...i realize that f1 drivers go through huge amounts of g-force and higher speeds, but from a driving aspect, i think it'd be harder to drive a car with 800hp and no traction control rather than a 900hp car with traction control...also, when you say f1 car's shift, arent they push button or somthing (i could be wrong on that one)...my .02

                    It might sound easy, go rent F1 2002 from easports and you'll see.

                      not trying to sound like an ass here, but it seems like traction control would be more necessary on cars that have to turn BOTH directions than it would be for cars that turn ONE direction....you can probably set the suspension up easy enough for NASCAR to safely run w/o traction control.

                        if you've ever heard the term used in a nascar race called "like stepping on eggshells" they are talking about how the drivers have to ease onto the throttle, otherwise they'll end up in the wall...traction control would help nascar drivers a great deal...they do have traction control, its called skill with the accelerator and knowing how far you can push it before it breaks loose...one direction or not, you cant have traction 100% of the time....another thing is that nascar's get "loose" all the time, meaning the rear end wants to slip out...traction control would help that problem emmensly, but its outlawed in nascar, otherwise im sure all the cars would have it.

                          id also like to add that yes, f1 cars are faster and have more technology, but with the technology comes driving aids which take away from the "skill" part of racing...its almost like cheeting :eek:

                            yes, but nascar drivers get to change tires, F1 does not (ok...they can change ONE tire per race...not one set, one tire.) Trust me traction control doesn't prevent spinouts in F1, they get loose plenty often as well.

                              f1 tires actually last the whole race, nascar's HAVE to change tires or they'll blow em all the time...unless goodyear comes up with some pimp shit tires for them...
